ANSWER!
A Flea!

Did you know fleas are the most common external parasites of companion animals?
In addition to causing itching and other skin problems, fleas can transmit diseases to
animals and people. The majority of the flea population (i.e. eggs, larvae, and
pupae) are found off the pet and around the home.

According to statistics, one in three pets become lost at some point in their lives, and yours could very well be one of them. That’s more than enough reason to microchip your dog or cat.

A microchip is a radio-frequency identification transponder that carries a unique identification number. It’s roughly the size of a grain of rice. When the microchip is scanned by a vet or shelter, it transmits the ID number. There’s no battery, no power required, and no moving parts. The microchip is injected under the loose skin between your pet’s shoulder blades and can be done in your vet’s office. It’s no more invasive than a vaccination.

If you are interested in having your pet microchipped, please give us a call today!

Today we honor the strength, courage and sacrifices of all the brave men, women and animals who have served and continue to serve for our country.
Your bravery will forever be remembered.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

ANSWER!
Bladder Stones!

These bladder stones we're removed from a patient via a cystotomy in our clinic.

Bladder stones are solid mineral deposits that form inside the bladder of dogs and cats and are quite common. Stones start out as crystals that form in the urine. Over time, the crystals combine and layer together to form bladder stones.

Signs that can be related to bladder stones include:
- straining to urinate
- urinating small amounts more frequently
- dribbling urine
- urinating in unusual places
- vocalizing or crying when urinating
- licking the v***a or p***s frequently
- urine may have a strong odor or show mucus or blood

Wishing our community a bright and joyous Diwali!
As we celebrate the Festival of Lights, let’s also remember our furry friends. Fireworks and festivities can be overwhelming for pets, so here are a few tips to help them feel safe and calm during the celebrations:
Create a quiet, cozy space for your pets to retreat.
Play soothing music to drown out loud noises.
Keep them indoors and secure to reduce anxiety.

From all of us at the Holland Landing Animal Hospital, we wish you and your pets a happy and safe Diwali filled with light, love, and togetherness.

Happy Halloween 🎃💀
We hope that everyone has a safe and happy day!

Trick-or-Treating can be stressful for our pets. To keep them safe and stress-free, consider setting up a quiet space away from the front door and away from the candy!

ANSWER!
A sewing needle!

This patient found themselves in a little bit of trouble after swallowing a sewing needle and thread.
After some initial diagnostics performed by Dr. Venditti, Dr. Kolas and assistant Hanan were able to surgically remove the foreign object.
This patient is now at home and is happily recovering.
This is a reminder that our pets can find the weirdest things appetizing. If you are worried that your pet has eaten something that they shouldn't have, please give us a call!
