What a great early Christmas gift
Who wouldn't want a keepsake photo with their special horse? You're in luck, as I'm offering Equine Christmas Mini Sessions this year! Dates are December 8 (evening) and December 9 (all day).
The sessions will be taking place at Reedan Ranch in Ridgedale. Prep work will be easy - give your horse a quick brush, as fuzzy winter coats look great for Christmas pictures! I will have neck wreaths available for your horse to wear, and show halters if you don't have your own.
For more information, DM the page, or call/text Avery at 306-609-0244.
I can squeeze a few more horses in this Monday and Tuesday for the dentist at the arena. If you are interested send me a message.
Well I guess the cold is here to stay. The heater has been on in the arena.
Horses have moved to paddocks and everyone else is set up for winter. We have caught up on some jobs around the farm and some animals moved from pens to freezer. Hay is hauled for the most part and machines tucked away.
So I guess it is time for lessons to fire up. I have some open spots if there is some interest in trying something new, send me a message and I can get the schedule out to you.
We have enjoyed the girl guides from Melfort coming out and doing a farm tour and riding some horses and now the Nipawin Blazing Saddles 4H are moving in for the winter haha.
We have limited evenings and weekends open for birthday parties. Reach out if you have a group and would like to book.
I still have a couple open spots for boarding, not many but if you would like to keep riding this winter and donât want to haul in the cold it may be a nice option for you.
Going to leave a little photo dump for everyone to check out all the going ons.
Stay warm and feel free to inquire about all the things we can offer you at the arena.
Well I guess my long holiday is over! Not sure it was a holiday but I definitely took the summer off of lessons. After a great last year and a wonderful 1st Reedan Ranch horse show , the horses went out to pasture for the summer. Yesterday was my first day back at it and the young ladies that came definitely set the bar high! They came ready to work, I can already see the winter being busy learning new things. I am excited for some new bodies in the lesson program and teaching them all about riding, stable management, first aid and all the different disciplines we can can touch on.
I was gifted with the most beautiful portrait of one of the long time teachers Makita. This young lady captured every detail on her. We made the call that this summer was going to be her final. At the ripe age of 29 she has taught many young and old riders some tricks of the trade.
When the time comes I will definitely share her story a little more.
Just had to share this amazing piece of art.
We will be hosting Mackinnon equine services in November for dentistry again. If interested please send me a message and I will get you on the list. Not positive on a date yet but would like to get a number.
I can answer some questions if you want. Feel free to message.
Great quick read!
At My Age I Canât Afford To Get Hurt
By: John Tilley
Many times I have had a person over the age of 55 approach me about riding their young horse. One thing that is commonly said among these people is âAt my age I canât afford to get hurt.â I agree, that as we get older we donât heal as well and as fast, but I also believe that nobody can afford to get hurt at any age.
Children and teenagers up to the age of 20 are developing their bones and their brains. Their bodies will heal faster but a serious injury could affect them for the rest of their life. People in this age group canât afford to get hurt.
People from 20 years old to 35 have their whole lives ahead of them and they are starting a career and starting to build things for themselves. They have work to get to, babies to feed and mortgages to pay on. They canât afford to get hurt.
When we are between the ages of 35 and 55 we are socking money away for our retirement, we may have a business that we run with many employees, we have lots of irons in the fire and people are counting on us. We canât afford to get hurt.
People over the age of 55 and into their senior years have finally reached their retirement. They have saved, they have worked, and now it is the time to enjoy it. The body at this age doesnât heal quite as fast- if it ever does. Some have worked their whole lives to enjoy this time, they canât afford to get hurt!
The truth is, nobody can afford to get hurt at any age. Yes, there are times in our lives when we heal faster but there is always a lot at stake when it comes to our health. Horses are dangerous and we will never fully eliminate all the risk that goes along with working with them. Myself or anyone else could make a mistake and encounter an accident. Through education, we lessen the chances of making those mistakes. In order to stay safe it is our job to educate ourselves about how horses operate and think. We need to educate ourselves about buying horses and what is appropriate for us. We need to educate ourselves on safety with our equipment and things like trailering and just being around horses on a daily basis. If your kids are interested in horses, get them some education. If youâre just starting out with horses, then get yourself some education. If youâve been around horses your whole life, get yourself some education. If horses are your career such as mine, then never stop learning and educating yourself. Enjoy those horses, be safe, and remember⊠you canât afford to get hurt at any age!
Hey, what a day!!!
So, thanks to everyone who shared the post about our missing cows. Not going to lie, little bit of a s**t show!!!
The day started off with Walker texting after he got on the bus this morning that he saw some tracks on the road. We went out and sure as s**t the cows are gone! As I mentioned before they all have royal names, I noticed last night that Katherine(Kate) looked pretty ready, she has been holding on to this baby like gold.
We each go our own way and low and behold I found some tracks just south east of the farm. I had to stop my cow tracking to go save Daniel who got suck in the mud. I tell him where I saw tracks and sent him on his way. It then decided to torrential rain for the next couple hours. I got the go ahead to post about the missing cows and thanks to the peanut gallery everyone got a little jab in Bryce Fossum, Dianne Wallington.
Around 4:00 we go back out with Mr. Michael Murphy and his drone. Gunner has got home from school and voluntold to come help.
Not going to lie, when they make fun of people working cattle together getting a little intense, there was definitely some colourful language being directed at all parties.
Fast forward, we find all said cows and calves and guess who had a baby out in the bush!!! Bull calf number three!!! George welcome into the world.
Our little round up was not going very smooth in the dense, wet and very muddy ground. So the plan is to grab the baby and they will just follow, right??? Well princess Katherine did not appreciate that plan and gave me a royal f**k you and I bitch slapped her and screamed like a little girl.
Warning, for any persons out there in social work or child welfare, stop reading!!
The stars did finally align and the cows got on the very greasy, muddy road and Dan made the dash to grab young George and jump in the side by side with Michael. The sn**ch and grab was going to work but old Katherine decided to turn back on me, who then peed a little and did a chicken dance, which she wanted none of it. She then eyed my young sweet Gunner and said come here my pretty!! I may of screamed run forest run, he did and straight up a tree. By this time Dan left Michael and George to fend for them selves and come back to help us.
We got things straightened out and Dan and Gunner went back for the quad which was left in the bush and I jumped in the side by side and we all went home a big happy family.
Well the royals have left the palace!!! In other words our 5 speckle park cows and two possible three now calves have run away in the storm last night heading south east from Ridgedale. Last tracks were down the Leacross and to the south a bit. Any sighting please call either Dan or I. 1(306)276-7517 or 1(306)276-7514
