Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day so we are celebrating by featuring some of the gang members we know and love. Inja is a great jumper, loves to run laps, and has the best fangs. Wendy is a fun playful cat who loves chasing toys down the stairs and leaping onto the cat tree, after dinner. Coco is a very sweet fluffball who enjoys attention and being told how cute they are. Cole is a great host and always greets me upon arrival, he enjoys dinnertime and his catio. Max enjoys flopping over and swimming a bit on the floor or counter, he also enjoys dinner. Do you love black cats too? Let us know in the comments. Or better yet share a photo of your black cat for us to see and gush over.

Today is National Book Lovers Day. One of my favourite series is the Wheel of Time so I would get the hardcopy as soon as I could as each new book came out. This is me and Hal doing a re-read. It is also a nice size for a cat to sit on. Do you have a favourite book series? Do you enjoy reading with your pet? Let us know in the comments and share a picture of you reading with your pets.

My beloved mutt was Clyde, my heart dog. I will love him forever! He was a German Shepherd, lab, and poofy mystery mix.

It’s National Kitten Day so here are a few tips if you are considering getting a kitten. Just like human babies and puppies kittens need some extra attention and care to grow into a happy and healthy adult cat. Most experts recommend creating a safe zone for your kitten with all the basics (their carrier, a bed, food and water, litter box, scratchers, etc). This is a place they can retreat to if scared or tired and use when you are out at work. Get food designed for the extra nutrition kittens need to grow. And kitten proof your home so that they can’t get hurt, chew on things, or get into any trouble when you are not supervising them. And consider adopting from a local cat rescue, they have lots of adorable kittens that need a home. If you have any kitten tips to share please leave them in the comments.

Foster needed for this adorable senior. Please share.

FOSTER NEEDED ASAP ❤️

Our darling senior Sunset is in need of a new foster family to help her decompress and complete her 30 day foster hold. Sunset is amazing with people and while we haven't dog tested her outside the shelter, we suspect she could live with a super chill male. No cats for this girl.

Sunset has showed some anxiety when left alone and we think it's just part of her experiencing so much change in the last week - we are looking for a foster who is home more often than not. Sunset can be a bit sensitive to loud noises and would be happiest in a quieter environment.

If you think Sunset would be a good match for you, please visit our website hugabull.com and fill out a foster application. Questions can be directed to [email protected] and will not be answered in the comments. Thank you!

With the long weekend and summer in full swing, I put together a list of places to take your dog this summer in Abbotsford, Mission, and the surrounding area. That way your dog is too busy to wallow in the mud puddle. Check it out!

Marley wallowing in the mudSummer is a fun time to get out there and do more. But I suspect most of you do not want your dog to wallow in a mud puddle like Marley. At least not regularly. Are you looking for something a little less messy to do with your dog? We have some suggestions for you!If you a...

Happening today at 12:30!!

You are invited!!! Our sweet boy, Kyle, has been with us now for 365 days. And while we adore him, a year in an animal shelter is just too long. So we're throwing him a "Pity Pawty" in hopes of getting more eyes on this gorgeous husky!

Join us on June 26th at 12:30pm when we take to Facebook live at the LAPS shelter to recognize Kyle and all the other animals here. There will be party favours, and party snacks and even games! So be sure to tune in at 12:30pm on Wednesday to help us celebrate Kyle and find him a much deserved forever home!

It’s officially summer and the hot weather can really take a toll on our pets. When it’s hot, please leave your pets at home while doing errands. It is always 10 degrees hotter in your vehicle than it is outside after just 10 minutes, and after 20 minutes can almost double. Parking in the shade and leaving the window open a crack is just not enough. Please also watch closely for signs of heat stroke.

Early signs of heatstroke in pet animals
Panting, this can progress to distressed or noisy breathing as the heatstroke worsens.
Restlessness or agitation, pacing, seeking shade or water.
Drooling.
Red gums or tongue.
Increased heart rate.
Vomiting or diarrhoea.
If you notice any of these symptoms please get your pet into a cool place and provide water. If it persists please see a veterinarian.

If you have food you can donate please do! If you have some but can't make the drive out send me a message. If I can round up a few donations I can drop it off altogether.

LAPS is very short on cat food! We are asking for anyone who is able to donate wet and dry cat food to our food bank. It is very empty and we have already had to turn away three people today. 😢

If you have the time and resources, please drop the food items off at the shelter at 26220 56th Avenue. As usual, it is greatly appreciated to help us support the animals in our community! 💚🐾💚

In honour of Pet Appreciation Week, we wanted to have a Peanut Butter Cookie Day. We all know Ziggy loves his peanut butter, but it is a huge favourite of most of the Furryornot Gang. Here is an amazing, and easy homemade peanut butter dog cookie recipe your furry friend will love. 🥰

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 cup hot water
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, raise oven rack slightly above the middle of the oven.
Mix all ingredients together. Batter will be thick and sticky. (I use my stand mixer)
Grease 2 or 3 cookie sheets, and put a half cup of wheat flour into a small bowl to use in next steps.
Using flour on your hands if necessary, roll batter into 1" balls. Place 2" apart on cookie sheets.
Dip a fork into flour and push down on each ball twice to make an "x" and flatten each ball to 1.5" or 2" across.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Cookies will be hard.
Cool completely on wire rack and store in airtight container for up to two weeks.
You may wish to crush the cookies and make "sprinkles" out of them using a zipper storage bag and the flat side of a meat mallet; keep these in the fridge in a covered container for up to two weeks.
This will make 6 dozen 🍪 😊

It’s Garden Week.🤓

For a great dog friendly plant and natural shader, consider adding sunflowers to your yard or balcony. These are a beautiful and bright addition to your garden and also produce rich bird seed for our local bird population in the autumn. 🐕 🦜

Another great plant to consider for your furry felines is cat grass. Cat grass, is packed with antioxidants, chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that promote cat health, plus fiber to support digestion. They will love grazing and keep themselves occupied for hours. 🐈

And for a nostalgic and cost effective pollinator you can consider wildflower mixes. Bees prefer blue, purple, and yellow flowers, and sweet fragrances. They see ultraviolet colors – found on the flowers such as buttercups and black-eyed Susans. Golden currant, serviceberry, and chokecherry flower early in May and June and attract bumble bees and mason bees. 🐝

Happy Gardening.😊

The second image shows Furryornot gang kit and cat, a lynx point Siamese and white Scottish Fold breed cat enjoying cat grass and wild flowers. It ends with the Furryornot not brand logo.
