It's been a long time coming (apologies) but here is the video of the draw for the winning maple leaf fundraiser. Bayley Faragher nominated the lovely Pauline Hamalainen as her favourite service professional and they each won a $25 gift certificate from the Beer and Wine Store.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff that sold the tickets for us and for Pau Rickett who donated the Gift Certificates

Funds raised go directly to the CAWES KITTEN PROJECT, an initiative that takes in feral kittens from high risk areas and works with them until they are loving, friendly house cats that can be placed in homes on Bowen.

If you would like more info on the project please get in touch.

The latest two kittens in the CAWES KITTEN PROJECT are now ready to be adopted (possible adoption pending). On October 8th we received two hissing, spitting, dirty, fearful kittens into the project. They are related to Thunder and Lighting in some way (the last two kittens in the project) and all come from the same area.

After not even four weeks these beautiful little souls have gone from feral and loathing humans to demanding love and attention. With love and kindness and much encouragement they have settled into a life of comfort and safety.

Many feral kittens do not make it to adulthood as they are taken by raptors or killed by coyotes or simply fail to thrive with no access to good food and vet care etc.

We will post updates on all four kittens shortly. It is so rewarding to see their progress. If you are interested in fostering kittens from the project or would like to help with financial costs, food or litter donations please get in touch. They are on nutrient rich diets and are thriving. We can't do it alone and there are many more kittens and cats that need our help. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I hope you enjoyed the fireworks Bowen folks. I really do.

But for those of you trying to comfort your traumatized animals and for all the animals in the forest, including the cougar, I apologize that we are not, as a race, compassionate enough to consider you. We only think about ourselves and our own enjoyment. You don’t really matter. Well you do, I suppose, but only when it suits us.

Times are tough. Rescue is tough. There are never enough people to help or enough funds to keep existing. I am sure if animals could, they would give back whatever they can alongside the unconditional love that they do.

As humans, if everyone that can, does the best they possibly can, together we can make a difference. Please consider a donation to [email protected] to help with existing veterinary costs for local animals and to help fund the feral kitten project

We are still looking for a landing pad for the two kitties that were orphaned last weekend. They need a caring soul with a quiet household to get them over their recent trauma. They are a little lost with the changes. A spare bedroom, where they can rest and chill and meet new people slowly would be ideal. We are full and looking for community assistance. CAWES will supply food, litter and anything else they need.

Are you that special person?

We are trying to find out if this little guy has a home? He looks to be a young intact male. He is very skinny and has been spending a lot of time visiting and feeding at a house that isn't his own. The house is on the corner of Oceanview and Miller.

He obviously needs a little help as he is matted and looks to have a lot of fleas. If you know him or at least know where he lives could you please reach out here or call 604 947 2555 so we can get him some help. You can also email at [email protected] Thank you 💙

While the last few hours of the Dog Of The Year count down and I am in "The proverbial DOGHOUSE" for deleting the front runner from the poll I am turning my attention to other things to release some of the angst.

I have a serious and somewhat urgent need to find a foster or a foster to adopt situation for an 8 year old Russian Blue

Gracie Blue, an 8 year-old Russian Blue who recently lost her loving mom. Gracie is full of love - very affectionate and has a super fun personality. She has a funny little Grinch-who-stole-Christmas face. Gracie (aka Little Gray Kitty, Pumpkin, Pumpy, Angel) has been happily living in an apartment for the last few years and prior to that was living in a house with three large dogs.

There is lots more to know about Gracie so please do give me a call or send an email to [email protected] if you would like to meet her. She is not on the island yet but should be here very shortly if we can finalize a foster home for her

Toffee is the most loved daycare pup on the island says his Mum Lauren. His gentle soul loves so many of Bowen's kids at the daycare and at the ball field each year. He deserves his place in among the lineup of special dogs that have and will be Dog Of The Year. Looks like he loves sailing too.

NOMINEE For Dog Of The Year202 4
6. Milagros

Nominated by the wonderful woman, who saved Mila from abuse (Anne Margaret) and neglect in Mexico, Mila came to Bowen in October of 2023. She was found on the streets, with her puppy and was being harassed by locals so much so that she now is afraid of men's feet!! But she found so much love and affection from her new mum here and the community of Bowen Island and will never have to scrounge for food again. Named Milagros (miracle in Spanish) for the miracle that she survived the ordeal but is affectionately known as Mila. She loves a lap and will often ask to sit with you even if she just met you. She is a Miracle and a joy.
