With heat warnings in place just a few things to keep in mind...

- Be sure to test the sidewalks/roadways to make sure they aren't too hot for your fur baby's paws. You do this by using the 7 Second Test...hold the back of your hand on the sidewalk/pavement for 7 seconds. Can you make it to 7 seconds? If you can't do that comfortably than it is too hot for your furry friend.

- Make sure to have fresh water out.

- If your pet is outside make sure they have shaded space.

- It is best to exercise your fur baby in the early morning or later in the evening to avoid the hottest time of day.

- Pool time! Your furry friend can try and beat the heat in a wading pool.

- Temperatures in parked vehicles get HOT FAST...so please please don't leave your fur baby in your vehicle.

Happy Canada Day!! 🇨🇦

Just a reminder that fireworks are beautiful to us but can be terrifying to your dog. Please keep your dog indoors and safe this Canada Day.

TIPS:
- Keep your dog inside.
- Close the doors, windows & curtains.
- If your dog wants to hide that is fine let them.
- Feed your dog before the fireworks start…a full tummy can make them sleepy and will hopefully help them relax.
- Try turning on the TV or radio to disguise the sound of the fireworks.
- Be sure your dog has his/her ID tags on just in case they run from you or your property.

Winter has arrived!! We wanted to share again a few tips regarding our fur babies.

- Be sure to watch them when they are outside. If they start lifting their paws or shivering bring them inside. Phoebe, Kooper and Phoenix love playing outside in the snow but even in this cold they can’t stay out for too long.

- Be sure to check your dogs feet when they come in. If needed, you can gently help remove built up snow and ice with a warm damp towel. Our three can get snowballs in their feet which can get very uncomfortable, I’m sure.

- If they come in with snow on their coat you can wipe them down with a towel. A damp coat can make them feel cool even when inside.

- When it gets really cold clear/shovel a path for bathroom breaks. This works quite well for our two littlest fur babies Mojo and Jasmine (Chihuahuas). Although they are p*e pad trained they both prefer to go outside. They can’t venture out long at all in this weather so I make sure to clear an area right near the door for them.

- During this extreme cold keep walks short.

- Dog jackets and booties can help our furry friends while they are outside.

- If your dog does spend time outside be sure that they have access to an appropriate shelter. The shelter must be insulated, heated and have a wind break to prevent the cold air from coming in.

- Be sure to have a heated water dish outside so your dog has access to water.

- We know our fur babies best. So know their limits. A dogs tolerance to the cold can vary depending on their coat, body fat, activity level and health. Make adjustments where needed to make sure your baby is comfortable during this cold weather.

With the dry conditions over much of Albera I'm not sure how many fireworks will be set off tonight...Just a reminder that fireworks are beautiful to us but can be terrifying to your dog. Please keep your dog indoors and safe this Canada Day.

Phoenix is such a character!! Such a wiggly girl! She loves butt scratches.

Phoebe was NOT happy about these birds being in her yard. She made sure they kept moving!

Phoenix was having a little moment this morning 😆. Jasmine (one of our chihuahuas) did not finish all her breakfast and Phoenix saw/smelled the food dish on the kitchen island. Her and I had quite a discussion about it 🤣.

When your hooman is watching old videos of your babies and you hear one of them dreaming you have to investigate.

Scrit scratches on the grass are the best!!!

Phoebe's turn. Not surprised at all by her reaction she hates when we kiss her! I'm surprised she let me. If she sees a kiss coming she usually backs away LOL
