HBR is a volunteer-run, foster home-based nonprofit rescue located across Ontario, Canada. A small scale dog rescue group located in Ontario, Canada.

We are non-profit, volunteer-run, and foster home based, meaning we have no kennel facilities where our dogs are kept. Each rescue dog lives temporarily in a volunteer's home until their Forever Home is found. We specialize in rescuing brachycephalic (flat faced) dogs: Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Boxers, French Bulldogs, Mastiffs, Shih Tzus, American Bulldogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered, va

ccinated, health checked, and microchipped before adoption. All potential adopters must fill out an application, have references checked, and a home visit. Each dog has an adoption fee they are NOT free. Please respect what we do. All money goes back to care for the dogs. Veterinary costs for the breeds we rescue are very high! Our rescue dogs come from owner surrenders, puppy mills, Humane Societies, and local shelters.

We have events in place that we rely on and we are also looking for new ideas!

We’re seeking dedicated volunteers to help us raise funds and spread awareness on social media and in person. If you’re a fundraising elite or someone who enjoys organizing events, your skills can make a huge impact on the lives of dogs in desperate need. HBR is a non profit that runs solely on donations and volunteers. This way 100% of funds raised goes into the dogs in care. Fundraising is a huge part of raising funds.

🚙 HBR is in need of volunteer drivers! 🚙

Do you like to drive? We are in need of drivers across Ontario to help transport dogs to their foster homes and some supply runs to different fosters. This is an important position! Without transport we could miss out on a vital situation where a dog needs rescue but we are unable to get to them! 🩷

If you sign up to be a driver you are able to choose which transports you can help with. And longer transports may be broken up between multiple drivers. At the end of the year you submit receipts and mileage and HBR will send you a tax receipt that you can use for donation purposes on your taxes. 🐾

As 2024 comes to an end we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our supporters. 2024 was a whirlwind of special cases and we had some very expensive veterinary bills this year. And we are still working through it. In order to be able to continue to help more dogs we need to get our current collective veterinary and supplies bill paid down.

If you are able to donate to our ever growing veterinary and supplies bill we would be forever grateful. HBR is a Volunteer run rescue and we rely on donations to be able to help dogs in need. Since we are a volunteer based rescue 100% of donations goes directly to the dogs in care. We understand that this year has been very hard for most people. Edit**** Please refrain from negative comments. We do not shame people through our rescue. These days people are having financial difficulties not to mention it’s Christmas and people are really struggling. The best thing they could do for him was to surrender him to the vet and allow us to take him in. It gave him a fighting chance. Please remember to be kind. Negative comments will be removed.

Today we were contacted by a veterinary partner about a 3 yr old Boston named Tucker that had been surrendered. He was presenting with vomiting and diarrhea. We of course said yes we can help this little guy. They performed X-rays which showed he was suffering from a blockage. The vet took him right into surgery to attempt to clear the blockage. Unfortunately they found a pile of baby wipes as well as a string that went clear through his digestive tract. His prognosis, recovery and future were dim unfortunately due to the damage that had already been done. The best option sadly was to euthanize. Dr Lindsay was amazing and she offered to remove her emergency fees, X-rays fee, bloodwork fee, euthanasia and cremation fees. Unfortunately our bill still came to $1600. We are so grateful to Kawartha Vet Emergency Clinic and Dr Lindsay for doing everything she could for Tucker. It is heartbreaking that we were unable to save him.

🩵🐾 Remember Me? - Congratulations Wilbur on reaching your 1 yr Adoption Anniversary! 🩵🐾 Wilbur’s Furever Family would like to share a few words about his first year with them ❤️ “ I’m happy to say Wilbur is still with me and going strong. I’ve attached a video of him with his girlfriend Rue, playing their favourite game. They chase each other around ‘til Wilbur’s stubby little legs give out, then they chew each others’ faces for a while. They also enjoy taking blades of grass, twigs, and/or wood chips from each others’ mouth to initiate “chase some more”. We call them Dork and Dorkette. As far as indoor play goes, Wilbur and Gary (his feline brother) often chase each other up and down the upstairs hallway. Never downstairs where I could see them, just a thundering overhead. Wilbur does not really enjoy toys or games like fetch, but he does enjoy walking in the woods. He’s getting more brave, and now will actually go out of my sight sometimes, and if Rue is with us, they range much farther. She makes him brave. I rarely leave Wilbur home alone, and when I do Rue always comes to visit and play for a while. Wilbur has his crate downstairs if he wants to use it, but mostly he prefers his bed upstairs. When I get home, he meets me at the door with every fibre of his being wagging and wiggling. Then we do a tour of the main floor so I can exclaim about what a good boy he is (ie no shoes chewed, no litter fritters consumed, no bedding shredded), and then we sit on the couch so he can wiggle some more and snort in my ear, all the while stomping on my legs with his jackhammer feet. Wilbur is still very anxious/reluctant around most people, but has improved a lot in the last year. He is usually on leash in scary (for him) situations, but when he’s really afraid and tries to bolt, I have to drop the leash and let him run or he drags me off my feet ( road rash is not a good look for me).
