Homeward Bound Rescue HBR is a volunteer-run, foster home-based nonprofit rescue located across Ontario, Canada. A small scale dog rescue group located in Ontario, Canada.

We are non-profit, volunteer-run, and foster home based, meaning we have no kennel facilities where our dogs are kept. Each rescue dog lives temporarily in a volunteer's home until their Forever Home is found. We specialize in rescuing brachycephalic (flat faced) dogs: Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Boxers, French Bulldogs, Mastiffs, Shih Tzus, American Bulldogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered, va

ccinated, health checked, and microchipped before adoption. All potential adopters must fill out an application, have references checked, and a home visit. Each dog has an adoption fee they are NOT free. Please respect what we do. All money goes back to care for the dogs. Veterinary costs for the breeds we rescue are very high! Our rescue dogs come from owner surrenders, puppy mills, Humane Societies, and local shelters.

Fostering is a journey that will change both the lives of the rescued dog and the foster family forever. Being in a foster home gives them a chance to love and be loved. It also gives them a chance to learn things like house training, cohabitation with other animals and people and sets them on their journey to their Furever home❤️

We currently have 3 Furever Fosters in care! These special pups are not adoptable due to their severe health conditions but, at HBR we believe that special needs dogs deserve Love and the best chance at Life.

I know we recently had a $5 Friday but we are having another $5 Friday this week. We have multiple medical cases in care right now and we need your help to ensure they get the care they need. ♥️ We have over 18,000 members on our page. If everyone donated just $5 we could do so much good for our dogs!

Poor Mazy had her tail amputated yesterday. It was severely twisted in a corkscrew and she was fighting infection around it. The best thing we could do for her to alleviate the infection and pain was to remove it. On a side note, Mazy has been working on weight loss and has lost 6 lbs! 💕

Our sweet little Jack is going in today for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome or BOAS surgery. Surgery involves removing the excess tissue that is present causing the obstruction in the airway and typically includes the nares (nostrils) and soft palate restructure. This surgery is becoming more common for flat faced dogs due to poor breeding. Jack also just had a biopsy of his skin as he is also battling hyperkeratosis around his ears and bum which is a thickening of the skin. 💙

Little Balki is also going in for BOAS surgery. 😥

Our darling little Acorn was just spayed and is also requiring a dental cleaning with a high probability multiple of extractions. 💜

Gorda’s Furever Family would like to share a few words about her first year with them ❤️

“ We are madly in love with Gorda (previously Lupa) She has been the perfect addition to our little family & has been an amazing little sister to her big sis Bufa. ♥️

FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO/EAT/ENJOY? She loves to play tug. Always waits for me to finish my drinks so can enjoy my water nuggets. She really enjoys playing outside. Rain or shine, sun or snow, she never wants to come inside.

FUN/INTERESTING STORY TO SHARE?
She’s a crazy girl with zero concept of her size. She’s always got us laughing by being her goofy self. If she’s not hiding under chairs or hanging over the back of the sofa then she’s hiding under the coffee table or springing up onto our laps at the dinner table.

ANY WORDS OF WISDOM or ADVICE TO SHARE WITH POTENTIAL ADOPTERS?
Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t get the dog who stole your heart online. We have a 5yr old rescue dog and we’re looking for another smushy face to love. We applied with HBR a few years before we finally found our Gorda. Once we opened our hearts to a mixed breed option our Furbaby Gorda appeared at the perfect time for us. Our family is now complete. “

Nala’s Furever Family would like to share a few words about her first year with them ❤️

“ FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO/EAT/ENJOY? Run everywhere! I absolutely LOVE my big backyard. My little brother tries to keep up but he gets tired easily. We have new neighbors who have a big dog and him and I just spend hours running back and forth trying to catch each other through the fence. I love my dinners but I like it better when mom and dad give me some of their human food. Let’s not forget the CHEESE TAX!

FUN/INTERESTING STORY TO SHARE? Not only do I snore… LOUDLY… my mom tells me I talk in my sleep! I must be chasing the neighbors dog lol.

🐾We are in need of Events Team Leaders. 🐾
We have events in place that we rely on and we are also looking for new ideas!

We’re seeking dedicated volunteers to help us raise funds and spread awareness on social media and in person. If you’re a fundraising elite or someone who enjoys organizing events, your skills can make a huge impact on the lives of dogs in desperate need. HBR is a non profit that runs solely on donations and volunteers. This way 100% of funds raised goes into the dogs in care. Fundraising is a huge part of raising funds.
