Rehabilitations
Have trainers told you “your dog’s behaviour isn’t fixable”? You need to work around certain behaviours and avoid normal situations? You must medicate to regulate their behaviour or worse, have your companion put down? We work through “impossible” behavioural traits to restore peace to your home and make time with your companion fun again. Dog/ food/people aggression, separation
anxiety, uncontrollable fears and unchecked puppy behaviours can be a nightmare. They don’t have to last. We’ll work with your pet to overcome these issues and teach you how to be a calm and confident leader for an environment everyone can enjoy. My training philosophy:
Safety always comes first!!! Keep it fun!! Make sure it’s fun for your dog to!! If it’s not.. change it up or advocate for your pet! Clear communication and timing with rewards is important for success. Nothing is free but stay age and behaviour appropriate with your patience and corrections! Be serious about unacceptable behaviours make sure it’s understood that it’s unacceptable! Everytime it occurs!! Follow through if it’s not clear, but always return to: keep it fun, keep it age appropriate!! Compassion, empathy, and security are the only path to the ultimate bond of trust love and respect. About us
The Jericho Harrison Canine Sanctuary started as a small rescue. We took in dogs that did not have many chances left, with the hope of giving them a better opportunity at life. This challenge was met with many ups and downs but also a lot of success stories. Through this journey a need was discovered with an opportunity for those who love dogs. Our foundation will always be the last chance dogs, striving to make a difference in their lives as they teach us to be better humans. With the goal to do more for these for misunderstood dogs, reality is that bills need to be paid. With that in mind The Jericho Harrison Canine Sanctuary was created. This is a place where dogs of all breeds and dispositions can live their best lives while enjoying all the wonderful things the country has to offer. A place where human and canine can rekindle that lost connection and find harmony. A place where a dog can leave the worries of busy city life behind for a bit and be a dog. Our Rescue
Our rescue began in 2005 while living in California. I adopted a last chance pitty mix due to be put down with in the week. I fell instantly in love with Jericho, the whisperer. He was an amazing ambassador to the species and breed. Thanks to his confidence and calm temperament he taught me so much about dogs and myself. Together we were able rehabilitate and find families for many dogs rescued from fight rings. But in the fall of 2011, as I pulled up my driveway, Jericho leaped over me, and out my drivers side window. My home was being invaded. Being the incredible dog he was, Jericho noticed something was wrong before I did. He ran to his death to protect his family. This moment changed my life forever. I vowed to repay the debt to his kind for the rest of my days. Since coming home to Thunder Bay, I’ve met a few people with similar convictions towards the canine species. With their help over the last couple years, we’ve been able to make a difference in several dogs lives. It is due to this support and an amazing location that we felt compelled to realize our full potential. It is surreal to run a business supporting humans while they build connections with their canine companions in a way that also supports a full time rescue. Any support, donations or financial contributions are greatly appreciated. Also please check out our merchandise section. All proceeds go back into helping our four legged family.
