A VERY fun find on our beautiful old farm property!🐴 I love to think that the horses who worked our home property for hundreds of years were well appreciated. Woodbury's was used from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. If only we had such a miraculous cure-all today eh? 😜

"This is strictly a reliable remedy for Coughs, Distemper, Affections of the Kidneys, Colic. Unsurpassed for the treatment of Spavins, Splints, Curbs, Enlargements, Cracked Hoof, Swellings, Cuts and Sores. Every horseman and farmer should keep this preparation in the stable. In case of emergency it will quite likely save the life of the animal. For Human use, for coughs, colds, bronchitis, falon croup, whooping cough rub the throat thoroughly with liniment. For sore throat make a solution of one teaspoon of liniment to one-half cup of warm water and use as a gargle three or four times a day or more if necessary. Apply the Liniment freely to the throat, neck, and chest and wrap well in flannel. For frost bites, chapped hands bathe with hot water and then apply the Liniment. For burns, scars scratches sprains apply the liniment freely."

🎉NEW SERVICE OFFERING🎉

We just can't seem to get enough of striving to bring you the most in depth bodywork services in the regions so...we are now offering EquiThalasso clay applications in conjunction with your bodywork treatments with Emily Marriott REMT!

The EquiThalasso clay application is a natural and effective way to support muscle and joint health for both preparation and recovery. Here are the key reasons to include it:
🐴Aids in Recovery: Helps the body recover by drawing out toxins and reducing muscle soreness after exertion or work.
🐴Eliminates Toxins: The natural properties of the clay help cleanse the body by extracting toxins that may accumulate in muscles and joints.
🐴Prepares Muscles and Joints for Work: Applying the clay before physical activity can help prepare the muscles and joints, increasing flexibility and reducing the risk of strain or injury.
🐴Reduces Muscle Tension and Soreness: The soothing heat from the hot clay application can alleviate muscular tension, making it ideal for treating specific areas of the body that are tense or sore.
🐴Soothes Joints and Tendons: By improving circulation and providing relief, the clay helps to prevent joint and tendon injuries, promoting overall mobility and flexibility.

We are currently offering the hot clay application which would be beneficial for spot treatments in locations that are holding large amounts of muscular tension and the competition clay application which would be applied to the whole body to prepare the muscles for work or to relax them after work. The clay can either be washed off after the treatment or left to dry and brushed off within a few hours.
Including EquiThalasso treatments in your routine can enhance performance, recovery, and overall joint and muscle health in a natural, drug-free way.

February Muscle of the Month: Longissimus Thoracic and Lumborum 🐴💪

Longissimus is a key muscle in the horse's back, essential for overall mobility and strength. It runs along, and attaches to, the dorsal or top surface of the vertebrae, and plays a crucial role in stabilizing and extending the back, which enhances the horse's weight-bearing capacity. Additionally, the Longissimus is involved in lateral flexion of the back, allowing the horse to move gracefully and powerfully in a range of directions. When Longissimus is holding tension, it "locks the back down" creating issues with engagement, bascule, contact, and forward momentum. Tension and trigger points are common throughout longissimus, and respond well to manual therapies and home care treatment plans.

By understanding and maintaining the strength and elasticity of the Longissimus, we can help ensure the horse's back remains strong, balanced, and capable of supporting performance under varying demands. 👏

🐎 25 years of experience as a competitive equestrian and horse owner
🐎 14 years of ongoing study and practice as an REMT specializing in biomechanics and sports therapy
🐎 6 years of ongoing study and practice as an Independent Saddle Fitter and SMS Trainee

An extensive knowledge of equine biomechanics, kinesiology, as well as personal riding experience is crucial to the success of a saddle fitting consultation. Though we work with and carry a selection of high end adjustable British saddles that we love, we remain independent from any brands. We do not “rep” brands. I work for YOU. The horse always comes first, long before pride, money, fashion, or brand names. I don’t care what your horse looks like, what your budget is, or what saddle you have! No judgement, no pressure, no bias 💕

💥CALLING ALL COBLETS 💥

Raise your hand if you have struggled with the table-topped, flat ribcaged, forward girth grooved, ponies and chonksters 🙋‍♀️ The GFS Monarch Cob Jump saddle is your new BFF.
I don’t typically post new or demo saddles when they come in, BUT I also know so many out there struggle with finding cob-friendly saddles that are not synthetic or GP’s.

This saddle is designed very flat through the rails allowing for a nice flat panel contact on those well sprung rib cages; short panels allow us to accommodate a bit larger of a seat size on a shorter back; and the adjustable billet system includes that elusive point billet that most jump saddles do not have, but those very forward girth grooves simply need. *breathes sigh of relief*

Calfskin leather, black or brown, interchangeable headplates, gusseted front and rear panels, moveable thigh and calf blocks, available in 16.5-18”

📣 Big Announcement #3 of 2025! 📣

This one has been in the works for some time now, but we are thrilled to be one of the very first Canadian retailers for GFS Saddlery 😍

Remaining an Independent Saddle Fitter allows me the flexibility to work within the clients individual needs regardless of brand. It also allows me the ability to pick and choose to work with companies that I truly love and believe in, who hold the same priorities as us; not dollars, but comfort for horse and rider. We know how hard saddle shopping is for Maritimers, and we are working hard to expand on brand availability in Canada, and our priority is not to sell you saddles, but simply to bring our clients access to high quality, well made, trustworthy, ADJUSTABLE brand options of all price ranges.

GFS Saddles are FULLY adjustable, with wool panels, interchangeable head plates, adjustable billets (yes, even the jump saddles!) and high quality leather (yes, even calfskin!) at prices that aren't going to break the bank with NEW saddles ranging from $2200-$3500 +HST

Why continue routine Equine Massage Therapy through the winter? 👐

Continuing massage therapy throughout the winter can provide numerous benefits for your horse, helping them stay healthy and perform optimally despite the colder weather. Cold temperatures and poor footing lead horses to being much less active during the winter months, both in work and in turnout! Here’s why maintaining a bodywork routine is important:

❄️Improves Circulation: Winter weather and lack of movement can cause blood flow to slow down, leading to muscle stiffness and discomfort. Regular massage helps stimulate circulation, keeping muscles warm, flexible, and well-nourished.
❄️Prevents Muscle Stiffness: Cold temperatures can trigger muscles to tighten, increasing the risk of strain or injury. Massage therapy helps alleviate this stiffness, keeping muscles supple and preventing discomfort or injury.
❄️Maintains Flexibility: Joints and muscles to become stiff in the cold temps, leading to reduced range of motion. Massage can keep your horse’s muscles and tendons flexible, improving movement and agility even in the winter months.
❄️Enhances Recovery: Reduced movement in winter can lead to decreased muscle tone or soreness from sudden exertion on cold muscles. Regular massage supports faster recovery by increasing blood flow to muscles and helping to remove metabolic waste products.
❄️Reduces Stress and Tension: Winter months can sometimes lead to changes in your horse’s routine, which may cause stress or anxiety. Massage therapy can help calm your horse, reduce muscle tension, and improve overall well-being.
❄️Prevents Injury: The muscles and tendons of horses can be more prone to strain in colder weather. Massage helps detect early signs of tightness or discomfort, allowing for early intervention and injury prevention.
❄️Boosts Immunity: Regular massage can stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to remove toxins from the body and boost your horse’s immune system, which is particularly important in the winter when cold weather can make them more vulnerable to illness.

By maintaining a routine of massage treatments throughout the winter, you're setting your horse up for a successful, injury-free spring and competitive season. The ongoing care ensures that your horse is in optimal condition, both physically and mentally, when the demands of the upcoming season increase. See you all soon!

📣NEW SERVICE OFFERING📣

We are now offering therapeutic respiratory sessions in conjunction with your bodywork treatments! The Flexineb equine Nebulizer can be used with medication prescribed by your horse's licensed veterinarian and provided by you, or natural solutions such as Eucalyptus, Saline or SilvaPlex provided by Eastern Equine Dynamics, during your horses bodywork treatment. We know that the purchase of a nebulizer is cost prohibitive to many, and though one treatment won't heal your horses airway issues, a few days of relief is always a blessing! A great option to improve airway function just before a show or event, or after a long trailer haul to clear out the "gunk" (yes, that is the professional veterinaryterm obviously.)

If you have ever wondered if your horse would benefit from a nebulizer, but want to give it a try before you bite the bullet, weekly rentals will be available starting in the spring (stay tuned for that announcement and further details)

Nelson had big feelings during his routine Tx yesterday 😝

Why does bodywork trigger horses to yawn? It’s a phenomenon that is stereotypically associated with a “release”. Now “release” is a word I don’t adore for many reasons, as it is used as a catch all term with little in depth understanding of what is actually happening in the body. So here is a little physiology lesson for you!

Let’s keep in mind that the circulatory system is our bodies delivery system of nutrients and OXYGEN to the body.
When muscles are tense and tight, they squeeze and compress the blood vessels and reduce peripheral circulation to the area. As a massage therapist works to relieve that tension/compression, and increases circulation to the tissues, there is a sudden increased demand for O2 as the circulation delivers all its nutrients to those previously tight tissues. What is the body’s natural response to rapidly increase 02? A yawn of course!

Happy Yawning!

Our Motivation

I recognize our animals as the athletes that they are. As an athlete myself, throughout life I was blessed to be exposed and educated in the benefits of body work as a necessary health care modality to enhance performance, reduce pain, and prevent injury. It has been my goal, as a Registered Equine Masssage Therapist and Independent Saddle Fitter, to not only provide this relief and care to our four legged athletes, but also to educate both myself, and the equestrian community on how important it is to listen to our animals, and recognize when they might be inhibited.

I graduated with Honours from D’Arcy Lane Institute of Equine Massage Therapy and Rehabilitation in 2012. Unable to resist my appetite for education, I traveled back to Ontario in 2014 to complete my Kinesio-tape Practitioner Certification. Followed closely by completing the necessary requirements to become an Independent Saddle Fitter at the Society of Masters Saddlers associated North American Saddlery School in Maryland USA. I am actively working towards becoming a Qualified Saddle Fitter with the esteemed Society of Master Saddlers.

My passion is in education, both for my clients, and continuing education for myself as a practitioner and horse and dog owner. I strive to work with my clients to help them understand their animals from a physiological and behavioral perspective. I will not always tell you what you want to hear, but I will tell you what you should know, and I will always tell you when I may not have the answer! And should that be the case, I will ALWAYS strive to help you find the answer. My goal is to bring equine professionals together to work as a team. Unfortunately, with animals, there is no black-and-white. No one-size-fits-all. No Band-Aid fix. Your team consists of your coach, your trainer, your farrier, your veterinarian, your saddle fitter, your chiropractor, your massage therapist, your PEMF therapist, your peers.
