If families have the bandwidth to implement only ONE strategy to keep their dogs and kids safer, my recommendation would be to add baby gates and/or pens to their home.

Safe zones promote harmony between all housemates.

Dogs who are sensitive or nervous love pens and gates because it can mean that unpredictable kids can't approach them without consent.

Kids who are nervous around dogs or who are just learning to become mobile are safer when the dog can't enter their space.

Parents find relief knowing they can do normal household tasks without eyes on the back of their head.

Retractable gates, like this one, can be useful in tight spaces or in awkward sized doorways. They also prevent fingers from being poked through. You should note that some babies or small dogs can sneak underneath if they are motivated enough.

WOOHOO!!!!! VINCENT IS SAFE!!! After a long 19 days on the lam, Mike was able to secure Vincent this evening. He is on his way home now.
Update will follow.
HOORAY!

I'm working the Vincent case in dartmouth. It's tough. He's not an unusual lost dog... he's as normal as it gets. His actions, reactions are typical... so why is this case so tough.?
Unfortunately, i feel i have to explain again, that all the good hearted people out there that want to see Vincent safely captured... are mY, AND, Vincents potential demise. I am fighting public interference only intended to be helpful by each and every person.
Folks, every single person that takes a little peak, walks a little extra of trail, stops their car to yell or call him, chase him into the woods thinking your faster than a dog, or screaming at him to "come" .. or walking your dogs in an area you know you never go but you heard he's there.... your well intentions and heart of gold although we love it, is hindering his rescue.
Every case i struggle to control public participation... wanted or not, but we struggle. 3 times i had Vincent in my grasp.. working him.. luring... only to be foiled by a car screeching to a stop and someone come running.... or someone yelling at him cause they don't see me laying in the grass.. or someone calling us to report a sighting yet they chase him as soon as they hang up the phone..... we see you . We have you in camera. But please..... please for Vincent's sake...STOP.
Call us... call the number on the poster. And walk away.
DO NOT CHASE HIM.
DO NOT TALK TO HIM.
DO NOT ASK HIM IN FOR COFFEE
DO NOT INVITE HIM TO A MOVIE
DO NOT DO ANYTHING.... PLEASE... JUST CALL, REPORT AND LEAVE.

WE, are trying to calm him down. He has run so far, and he is tired.
DID YOU KNOW, WE COUNT AT LEAST 8 ENCOUNTERS A DAY WITH STRANGERS TRYING TO CATCH HIM AND AT LEAST 4 CARS A DAY WITH THEIR 4 WAY FLASHERS DRIVING THE ROAD LOOKING FOR HIM!!!! (WE HAVE YOU ON CAMERA AS WELL)
Folks, i can get him... if you'll let me.
Please... please leave him alone.
Your help is wonderful... but a grave danger to his safety. I'm serious.!

HELP ME, HELP VINCENT! PLEASE!!!
CALL IN A SIGHTING, AND WALK AWAY.

*please refrain from judgemental commentary. I am not posting this looking for support. I'm begging for people to leave him alone. *

Thanks folks

Redirecting is when you get the pup’s attention away from something you don’t want them interacting with by moving their focus onto an alternative item. Redirection is helpful for if puppy is getting nippy/mouthy, or if they have grabbed something you don’t want them to have.

You can practice redirecting your pup as often as you like. The more you do it, the eaiser it will be!

We have unfortunately been seeing escalating cases of LEPTOSPIROSIS in our hospitals. In this event, we thought it would be helpful to share some information with you:

What is it?
“Lepto” for short, is a bacterial disease that infects our beloved pets AND us.

How is it contracted?
The disease-causing bacteria are spread through urine of the infected animal and can survive for weeks-months in soil and surfaces of puddles, lakes, streams, rivers, etc. (The places our dogs frequently drink from). It is typically spread through mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) comes in contact with the infectious urine. Your pet is at risk when NOT ONLY drinking, but swimming and walking through infectious waters!

What is the threat?
Lepto can cause jaundice and kidney or liver failure, and in severe cases (but not uncommon), death.

When to seek veterinary attention?
Signs may include fever, weight loss, vomiting/diarrhea, dehydration, and abdominal pain. To determined if your pet has come in contact with this disease, your DVM may opt to run a blood or urine test.

How can we protect our loved ones?
- vaccinate against Leptospirosis
- limit high risk areas such as bodies of waters, puddle and parks like Point Pleasant Park, Long lake, etc.
- ensure your dog is not drinking from unfamiliar water or puddles.

Please contact us if you have concerns or questions at 902-445-4552 or by emailing [email protected]

Stay safe ♥️
