Olympic time!!

The trials and tribulations of Mr. Ziggy Meet Mr. Ziggy, I met him first on October 11 and let’s just say he was a bit of a “problem child”! He was being quite rude, intimidating to his owners, and basically thinking he was all that !!! LOL On day one, my goal was, could I ask him to take a step forward ( His owners at this point could not lead him one step at all) or if that would not work could I ask him to move his hip over one step… Well needless to say he was so rebellious about anything that you asked him to do, he would rather stand on his hind legs and strike out at you and try and bite you, then to quietly and calmly take that one step. I did have to have a discussion with him, that rearing up and striking out at me was not in our program 😊 and then I methodically would carry on with asking him for just one step, and by the end of our session, we could move one step in both directions, and we actually managed to get a couple of steps forward . Also he learned that he could stand quietly and not leap forward on top of people (an increasingly bad habit ) and of course with positive reinforcement, and telling him how brilliant he was and lots of patience we ended the session on a good note The next day I returned to reinforce the previous days work. Well Mr.Ziggy was going to test me once again to see if he could intimidate and have his own way, as he felt the world what is his oyster, and that that it was easier to make the humans around him miserable and have his “temper tantrums” and get his own way and then they would leave him alone ! No fault of his owners for they had never foaled out a baby of their own before, and not a stud colt who was extremely opinionated as to how the world should work according to him, and as his owner would say he was a little bit of the devil incarnate 😂 As I proceeded to work with him on day two, quietly asking him to mo

Who is Esther Johnston?

Over 55 years ago I started on my horse journey. To this day I am still keeping up with my education in the world of my equine friend. In 1971 our car was hit by a drunk driver and I ended up wth 4 vertebrae fused in my neck. The Surgeon telling me I would never ride again made me all the more determined to get in the saddle no matter what.

I continued on to make a lifelong study of body awareness and biomechanics so I could help my broken body (I also have chronic back issues) so that I can continue to ride and also to be able to assist my students.

In 2007 I was thrilled to become certified as a Centered Riding Instructor. This would help me in my pursuit for a better understanding of the biomechanics of the human/horse connection. Currentry a Level 2 Instructor working on fulfilling the Level 3 certification requirements.In 2017 I was proud to achieve my Harmony Horsemanship Instructor Level 3L .
