Niagara Spay Neuter Assistance Program Inc Our aim is to help end pet overpopulation and pet homelessness in the Niagara Region. Please Note: we are not a rescue group.

We do not take in strays or re-home pets. The only thing we do is assist financially with spay/neuter. If you need help with rescue or re-homing pets please contact one the rescue groups in Niagara. If you need assistance with spay/neuter, please go to our web site, download an application form, fill it in and either email it back to us or send it back via regular mail. If you see us posting cats

/kittens up for adoption or hosting adoptathons it is because we assist various other local groups in finding homes for cat & kittens.

It is with overwhelming sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that, Catherine, the little 7 week old kitten left in a bag by a dumpster, had to be humanely euthanized. She was paralyzed and the x rays showed that her spine was fractured. Rest in Peace sweet little Catherine. You never had a chance. Should anyone recognize this kitten and have any information about her please contact us at [email protected] She was flea infested so likely the person who had her has multiple pets and lives in the downtown St. Catharines area. They may need help with their other animals. Thank you to everyone who donated to us for her care.

Like many groups we have had our shares of heartbreaking, costly emergencies. Just now we got a call from the maintenance man at the St. Catharines Cathedral who found a small kitten in a garbage bag that had been thrown in a dumpster. Fortunately he saw the bag move and decided to open it. Inside was a little injured white 9 week old kitten (pictured above). We named her Catherine and she is at one of our vets now. There is no excuse for such cruelty. Whoever dumped her in the garbage could have taken her to the humane society or called any of the rescue groups.

The weekend before last, on Saturday evening, we got a call from someone about a mother cat who had given birth to five kittens a day prior. We were told she had a pr*****ed uterus. She was left too long in this condition so that by the time we got her her entire uterus was dragging behind her, inside out. Despite this she was still trying to care for her kittens. We took her to the emergency clinic and they tried to save the mother cat but she was severely anemic because she was bleeding out into her abdomen. She was in shock and would not survive any surgery. Two vets there agreed she was suffering and needed to be euthanized. They bottle fed the five kittens overnight for us and Sunday morning we brought them to another group’s experienced bottle feeder in Orangeville.

And last week there was Chester, a little 5 month old boy who had been an indoor only kitten until the people decided he should be an outdoor only cat. He was being beat up by the strays there and the people knew it. He had a severely lacerated eye and a very deep wound on his legs and was crying to come in but they wouldn’t let him. It is truly hard to imagine that people can have such cold hearts. When we heard about him we immediately took him in and brought him to one of our vets. He needed stitches in his eye which was severely lacerated and surgery on the deep wound in his leg. He has been back to the vet three times for a bandage change to his leg and the good news is that this sweet boy is healing up very well. He is safe now and will be going up for adoption when he has healed up fully.

Please support us by coming out to our events. Our next event is the Bake and Yard sale on Sept 21 and 22. In November we will be hosting a Christmas on-line auction for which we will be asking for donations of gift cards and items. Details to follow. Please support us too by becoming a foster parent. Please email us at [email protected] Thank you!!

Remember me? Zeus, the sweetest kitty in the whole wide world? Well guess what. I got adopted! The NSNAP people gave me my dental and I went home yesterday after healing from my dental work. I am now called Leonard and that suits me fine because I am more a Leonard than a Zeus. I am embarking on my new life with my new forever family with a new name. They snapped a picture of me napping in my new home and I heard them say they love me!! I am so happy. Thank you to everyone who helped me get here.

IN URGENT NEED OF A FOSTER. This mother (gray and white kitty) and her two teenage daughters (champagne coloured and orange and white kitty) were left behind in an apartment with no food or water. We took them in, spayed and vaccinated them and they are now up for adoption. They are safe now, but are currently being housed in a cage due to a lack of foster homes. This is hard especially for the teenage daughters (they are about 6 months old) because, like all kittens, they want to run and play, something they cannot do being in a cage. If you think you can foster this little family (mother and 2 daughters) or if you can foster the two daughters we would appreciate hearing from you. Food and litter provided. They all three have beautiful, happy, friendly dispositions. If you can help message us by way of the button below or email us at [email protected]

This is the mama cat the vet clinic named Lucky because
had she not been brought in she would have died as would the kitten stuck in her as well as the sixth one we didn't know about. Yup. When she got home after the vet got the 5th stuck kitten out and after he cleaned off all the kittens, she gave birth to a sixth surprise kitten! Lucky and all her six babies are doing well! Thank you to everyone who donated towards her vet bill.

We had an emergency this morning. Mama cat gave birth to 5 babies but 5th kitten was stuck. We rushed her to the vet and they were able to free the 5th baby. Picture of him after help with the difficult birth of the 5th kitten below. Mama and all 5 babies are doing well now. But this is another unexpected vet bill. This on top of the kitty we rescued who is going in for blood work and dental work tomorrow. If you are able to help us at all, please donate to [email protected]. Thank you!

Ok. I know what you are thinking: what the dickens is a big cat like me doing on this page. Well, they called in the heavies. That’s me. When things get really serious they call in the heavies. And things are serious. The NSNAP coffers are worse than empty. And we all know what that means. Now my little cousins—that’s the NSNAP cats—have been working their little tails off getting the NSNAP on-line auction ready to start tomorrow, April 19. They’ve worked hard. Really hard. And I would hate for them to be disappointed. See? They are so excited by all the wonderful donations they received from the community. And they are proud of the work they’ve put in getting this auction together so they can raise funds to help kitties in need. So I hope you will bid on lots of items and bid generously. Anyway, just so you know, I may look like a heavy, but really I am just a p***y cat. Link to the auction will be posted tomorrow morning! Then one click and you're in!
