Amazing update!!! The shares across social media helped highlight Polo and he has secured placement in another rescue:
https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10165852631840541&id=10150127328310541

Huge thank you to everyone involved in getting Polo into a home, including all of you!!!

-----
This pooch is in a local shelter and up for adoption. Sadly, he has no interest and is deteriorating in the shelter system and we need your SHARES to help.

He is vision and hearing impaired, making life a bit harder overall. He needs an experienced home, pet-free as well as kid-free. He has been mouthing/holding hard with no ill-intent (no punctures but some bruising), and this is why no pets, no kids and experience is needed. Fenced yard required as city walks are over-stimulating for him and he NEEDS off-leash play with you. A country home would be great with a long lunge line, supervision and nice paths to walk too. It is a lot to ask, so that's why we need as many eyes on this as possible.

We are hoping to help the shelter find an adopter (best case scenario) or find a foster home for the shelter, or a foster home with us so we can intake and support this boy's needs to give him a shot. We will provide training support via professional trainers from the get-go.

To adopt him or foster him from the shelter and/or to read his profile, find Polo here:

Or read his profile here:

To apply to foster Polo with us, apply online here http://www.sitwithme.ca/foster. Please include a note on your application that you would like to foster Polo.

Polo is not an easy dog, so be sure to read his profile. We can only imagine how much love he has to give

How do you socialize your puppy when they aren’t fully vaccinated yet?
Socialization doesn’t mean just interacting with other dogs/people.
Chihuahua puppies are very small so in order to safely socialize him before being fully vaccinated, we incorporated a puppy backpack carrier!
This allows the puppy to observe their surroundings while being introduced to all the new smells in the environment.
It also helps with separation anxiety and fearfulness; most often we will simply pick up our small dogs just because it’s whats easy. However; by picking your dog up you’re creating that attachment to you and making them fear being on the floor.
The bag still allows him to be elevated and safe while he is still a puppy and fairly small BUT with no actual physical touching we avoid creating any bad habits! 💥 🐾

Puppy training needs to be combined with proper management, daily exercise, frequent socializing, balanced diet, and regular grooming; by incorporating these components, the puppy will be able to reach their full potential and will integrate well with our lives and the community.
The easiest way to lose excitement towards a puppy would be to fail to provide them with the practical skills necessary to mature into a trustworthy companion; a well balanced dog that enjoys the company of others but also their own.
If a puppy is not taught how to behave in a calm, relaxed manner, they become a burden, a problem, and it’s more likely that you will want to spend less and less time with them.
The real point of obedience training is to allow the puppy to be a significant part of our daily lives, with the puppy always being calm and under control.
Dogs are happiest when they are around/with their owners but also when they have specific boundaries and rules to follow. A structured pup is a happy pup! 🐶 🐾

The DEADLY CORN COB!!
Although you might think this is a delicious treat for your four legged buddy, corn cobs could be the cause of you losing your best friend.
Corn cobs are one of the most common yet dangerous foods you can give your pet.
The corn cob does not break down in the acid of your dogs gastrointestinal tract, instead they swell up and block the entire path, resulting in complete mayhem within your dog's intestinal system.
Once in and blocked up there is only one way out, an emergency exploratory laparotomy done by your veterinarian. This Is a high risk procedure as the corn cob can cause severe internal damage.

You might think to yourself "its fine, i'll just cut it up into smaller pieces" NO!!!!!!!!!!. Regardless if the corn is large or small, it will still swell internally and still block your pets intestinal system. So let's protect our loved ones and put that corn cob in the bin, make sure during your summer bbqs none of your friends or family sneak a corn cob treat to your pet, it could mean
life or death to your beloved buddy.
