Now isn't that fact that's worth repeating again.

Now isn't that fact that's worth repeating again.

Dogs generally pull about 60 per cent harder on a leash when wearing a padded harness compared with a collar, even when the equipment is marketed as “anti pull” – putting the people walking them at risk of injury.

Some dogs – especially smaller breeds – pull with a force more than twice their body weight on the collar, potentially damaging their throats, says Erin Perry at Southern Illinois University.

“It’s really very shocking,” she says. “The dogs are almost choking themselves on that collar repeatedly. But the harnesses in our study just didn’t inhibit pulling in any way, and that’s definitely a wake-up call – especially because of the risk to owners.”

How cold is too cold?

The temperature at which it becomes too cold for a dog to be outside depends on several factors, including the dog's breed, size, coat type, age, and health. However, some general guidelines for the average dog can help:

1. Above 7°C - Most dogs are generally safe and comfortable being outside without any special precautions.

2. 0°C to 7°C - You should start to pay attention to signs of discomfort, especially for smaller or short-haired dogs. Older dogs or puppies may also be more vulnerable at these temperatures.

3. -6°C to 0°C - At these temperatures, it's important to monitor your dog closely. Consider using a sweater or coat for small or short-haired breeds, and limit outdoor time to prevent cold-related health issues.

4. -15°C to -6°C - These temperatures can be dangerous for most dogs, especially those who are not accustomed to the cold. Limit outdoor exposure, and provide additional protective measures if your dog needs it, like paw protection and clothing, for any necessary outings.

5. Below -15°C - These temperatures are extremely dangerous for most dogs to have extended exposure, and they should be kept indoors with outings limited to brief bathroom breaks.

Always watch for signs of cold distress in dogs, such as shivering, whining, seeking warmth, or reluctance to walk, and bring them indoors if you notice these signs. If in doubt, consult with a veterinarian for advice specific to your dog.

Tools are for training and as I’ve me met mentioned before can save a dogs life and can keep them out of shelters!!

So true, and I say this all the time.

Training tools used properly do create happy and energetic dogs.
Nora gets excited when I pick up her e-collar and Herm Sprenger to her this signals I’m going out, I’m going to work, I’m headed off leash, or I’m heading out for socializing.
Why must trainers who haven’t used the tools or even seen how they work and in some cases save a dogs life. Yes, tools can save a dogs life. (We use e-collars to help train death dogs)
