They never asked for any of this. 💔
And yet, once again humans have failed them.
Without ever understanding why, they will unwillingly be left behind and have to say goodbye to this world. Sadly, by the ones who tried for so long and fought so hard to save them.
This is why we don’t need more dogs bred. We need to save the ones that deserved a life and to be loved just as much, but were failed. They are special. Because you make them special when you choose them.
It’s not easy to take in a rescue. It is A LOT of work and dedication to training, patience, and trust - that the process will work, in time. Environment is so important, as is understanding.
If you are someone today that has space in your home and life, along with experience, maybe it’s your time to step up and save a soul.
I took Bo in 8 months ago. He was given no chance, no training, no understanding. The reward in my heart is greater than any. Trust me on that. Seeing him grow, learn to trust, learn to love, and more than anything, the gratitude that I know he feels in his heart, daily, warms mine with purpose. 💞
Please share. Time is on no ones side. 💔 🐶
BEHAVIOURAL EUTHANASIA
It's Taboo. No one likes to talk about it. Those who have to make that choice are vilified, harassed, and threatened. Those of us in rescue, whether behaviourally focused or not, will face the choice at some point. And we will receive hate, scorn and criticism like no other. It causes many, many rescuers to burn out, close down, or worse.
Absolutely NO rescuer gets into volunteering to say goodbye. We want a happy ending for every dog, to find their perfect match, and safe place. We agonize over it, loose sleep, cry endlessly, praying everyday, that that unicorn adoption application comes in, and says; 'they're the one for me, I'm ready and committed to meeting their needs, and taking them home'. But often that email doesn't come. No applications get filled. Dogs are forgotten, and unwanted. Until of course it comes time to "save them" from the evil rescue who's been fighting for them all along.
I have 3 wonderful dogs, that I have been pushing HARD for the last 6 months, because they are declining. I absolutely will NOT ignore a dogs mental health and wellbeing. They have been looking for their forever homes for 2-3+ years. Unwanted, ignored, and forgotten. However, I am not ignoring them, and I will not put off a decision that was a long time coming, any further. It is decision week for these 3 angels. And I will love and spoil them until that final moment.
If you were planning on applying, the time is NOW. Not tomorrow, or the day after, TODAY. Don't waste my time, don't pretend, and then back out. And don't try and force a dog, whose needs you cannot meet, into a home not meant for them. There are HUNDREDS of dogs in need, and not enough homes. Countless dogs are dying across Ontario, and Canada, because there simply aren't enough homes.
As a behavioural rescue, and a person who gives everything to her dogs, I will give them the gift of peace. My mandate has always been; dogs that are safe for adoption go up for adoption. Dogs that can't go up for adoption, but are safe for me to handle, stay with me for as long as I can give them. Dogs that aren't safe for me to handle, or I cannot keep safe, I say goodbye to with the dignity, and respect they deserve. That includes keeping them safe from their own demons. This will not be the first decision I have to make during these final ~8 weeks. I am now dying, and facing a major surgery, that I may not survive. My time is extremely finite. I have put it off, to give more time, to find those homes, so I don't have to make this decision, but I cannot no longer. My mission is to keep the public safe, and my dogs safe, and that includes from themselves.
These decisions will cause people to stop following, and supporting. They always do. And it hurts every time. But it is a huge responsibility to work with behavioural dogs, and I take it very seriously. My dedication, is to the dogs first.
If you are 100% ready to adopt, profiles can always be found here: https://www.adoptapet.com/shelter/188136/available-pets For every face you see, there are at least 50 more waiting for a chance that may never come. Every behavioural rescue is stuffed with similar dogs in need. If you can offer a unicorn home, today is the day to adopt.
Comments will be monitored. I will tolerate no hate or disrespect to these angels. If you can offer a home 100% to a dog in need, then message the page with your email ASAP. Dogs are placed by best match based on lifestyle and needs, never by appearance. Putting a dog in an unsuitable situation, or again in limbo, is not a solution. They need a permanent, forever home, that can meet their needs, and they need it today.
To those that have walked in my shoes, and been there to support me through my rescue journey, thank you. I appreciate you more than words can express. Let's hope that a miracle happens today ❤️
