Citadel is now marking its 12th year providing dogs for Military veterans and First Responders, and it is a Canada-wide operation. CITADEL CANINE SOCIETY is a CRA registered charity that trains and delivers PTSD - OSI medical service dogs to new Military Veterans, and First Responders (police, fire, ambulance, nursing, and 9-1-1 personal). We provide these wonderful dogs at no charge to the recipi
ents. Citadel Canine is the only registered charitable training school within Canada that exclusively specializes in PTSD service dog production. While we are based in Vancouver, BC we have training activities stretching from Newfoundland-Labrador right across the country to British Columbia. Citadel Canine is one of Canada's largest PTSD service dog providers, and we are Canada's longest-running mission specific PTSD service dog provider. Half of the dogs we have paired to date have been for CF veterans, and the other half have been paired with First Responders. Within that group more than half are with police members, including a large number of RCMP members.
We thought we’d share this very cool tribute to Paul & ‘Scarlett’ from Ontario. This Lego creation was made by a gentleman who is a “Lego enthusiast” & simply enjoys making these from spare pieces & makes the necessary adjustments to make them. Very impressive on the creativeness. 💙🐶💙
Big SHOUT OUT to the crew at Bosley's in Campbell River, BC, over on Vancouver Island. They and their store down in Comox are once again supporting Citadel Canine and our PTSD medical service dog program. (Very Important Dog). 🥰 This marks the 4th year that we have received support from the Campbell River Bosley's location, which is very much appreciated. WOOOOF!!

One of our teams in-training from North Bay, ON, was doing some access training in a Boston Pizza. Pete & his teammate “Doug”, were in the restaurant during the busiest time of day & as you can see, “Doug” was nestled under the table without a care. We introduced you all to “Toby” several months ago. He has officially started his Service Dog training under the direction of Citadel Canine Society.
“Toby” has 18 months of training ahead of him to become the next generation Trauma Support Service Dog, to assist victims of crime & tragic circumstances in Victim Services of Nipissing District at the North Bay Police Service, and the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre of Nipissing.
“Toby” was acquired from Lucky Labs in Wallaceburg, On, & we know “Toby” along with his handler, will be there with compassion whenever they are needed.

Out in Ottawa, ON, team Carleen & ‘Marley’ took a trip to the dentist today. What makes this visit extra exciting is the fact it was ‘Marley’s’ first time accompanying her teammate to this type of appointment & as you can see, she was stellar at it! ‘Marley’ provided Carleen with pressure therapy & impressed the dentist by the performance of her task. On May 5, in Toronto, ON, Paul & Scarlett attended the 25th Ontario Police Memorial honouring the 281 officers etched on the wall at Queen’s Park. Thousands of people were there to pay tribute. Out in Long Sault, ON, Line & her teammate “Sophie” were out for a dental appointment. Sophie checked out the dental hygienist to make sure everything was in order for the appointment. Once Sophie knew everything was ready to go, she comfortably laid down & patiently waited for Line to be done. Always great for Line knowing that her teammate is there. Good job ladies 💙🐶💙
Out in Greenwood, NS Mother Nature has been cooperating with everyone that enjoys a round of spring golf. Here we find Diane & ‘Jacob’ enjoying the greens. Diane is part of our Citadel Canine cross Canada trainers. When Diane is not training our teams in NS, she enjoys getting out the ‘sticks’, while getting a dose of vitamin D. ‘Jacob’ travels in her cart like a pro & loves being her teammate. Up in Sudbury, ON, local veterans meet to have coffee & conversation. Two of our certified teams who are both veterans, are always giving back to their verteran community in any way they can. Of course Marley (left) & Fenwick (right) join their teammates Dan & Noel (respectively) for all those outings. I am told that Marley & Fenwick are thick as thieves whenever together, lol. In Ottawa, ON, Carleen & ‘Marley’ had a sports filled weekend. On Saturday, they attended the PWHL against Toronto. ‘Marley’ was keeping her eyes out for loose flying pucks, lol. Today, they attended the OHL Ottawa 67’s game & she was totally focused. Trying to provide positive energy to the 67’s! Carleen & ‘Marley’ love their sports & each other. On February 21, 2024, Paul & ‘Scarlett’, had the honour to play Last Post & Reveille at the ceremony for International War Animal Day. This took place in Toronto, ON. The Toronto Police Mounted Unit in partnership with Toronto Police Military Veterans Association (TPMVA) & the UK’s War Horse Memorial, joined to commemorate the first International War Animal Day. The purpose of this ceremony, is to honour & remember the animals that served during the war. Horses were sent overseas in 1914, the history on this is worth looking up. Out in Saskatoon, SK, there is a birthday being celebrated. “Koda” turned 6 today. His favourite pass time is playing fetch but the absolute best gift in the world, is a new ball! His teammate Colin says ‘Koda’ takes his ball fetching very seriously . He is laser focused & intense when a new ball comes into the room. By the expression on ‘Kods’s’ face, that’s an under statement! We are still laughing. 😂 Happy 6th birthday, Koda.

Great Graduation news from British Columbia. Dave and "Tala" passed the BC Guide & Service Dog Act public access testing exam earlier today. They have been diligently training for many months, and their work has paid off. Special thanks to Lucky Labs for donating this wonderful dog, and to awesome dog trainer Becki Bookham for her work in getting this team across the finish line. These photos show Tala the day she had just arrived from Ontario as a wee puppy, and their Grad photo today. WOOOOF!! 😀😍🥰

We would like to introduce “Sparrow” & her teammate doing some public access training in North Bay, ON. Sparrow was donated to us by Canadian K9, Victoria, BC who trains dogs for detection work for police services & others across Canada. Sparrow decided that detection was not in her choice of careers, she wanted a slower pace, that also involves belly rubs. She is an incredibly loving dog that we paired with a first responder last year & they are working well at training. Keep up the good work team! 💙🐶💙🐶
