🐶The proper Dog grooming protocol when taking your dog to the groomer.
A few do’s and dont’s on dropping your dog off for a grooming appointment.
First of all, please bare in mind that dogs are energy readers and if you are nervous on drop off, your pet will think that there is a reason to worry.
Try to keep your cool and stay positive. If you are nervous please chat to your groomer in advance about any worries. Nervous dogs would benefit from regular drop in visits to the salon (booked in advance) just for a treat and a cuddle so that they see the salon as a positive environment.
Please try NOT to do the following -
* Overly fuss your dog before you leave the salon-
This will make your dog focus on you right before you leave and stress them out even more. Please lead your dog in to the salon and make a swift exit.
* Say the words "goodbye" or other trigger words that you normally say to your dog when you leave them like “back soon” etc.
* Please do not take off your dogs collar/harness and lead, it is easier for us to guide them in with them on and means that you can leave quickly, causing minimal stress for your dog
* Do not pick up your dog and pass them to us. Dogs can be very protective when being held by their owner and may display undesirable behaviours
Please try to DO the following:
* Arrive on time not early or late
* Keep drop off time short and sweet as this means your dog doesn’t get stressed
* Toilet and exercise your dog before arrival.
* Make sure you are easy to reach at all times during your dog’s appointment.
* Collect your dog on time. Please do not come in early or late.
This is just a few points but the above is very important. Making sure to stick to these points can make a huge difference in how your dog sees the grooming process and help your groomer to make their grooming appointment a pleasant, stress free service for you and your dog.
Our main concern is always the comfort and welfare of your dog.
