Principles of Learning & Motivation
This is Key Lesson #1 for trainers. When we know how learning occurs, that stimulates learning and what inhibits learning we can be better trainers for our horses.
We also have to know what motivates our horse and why. Is it an appetitive or aversive: A Going Towards or a Moving Away From energy in our horse.
Choose Smart Cues that won't confuse
There are smart cues and not-so-smart cues in training (OK: poorly chosen cues).
What's the difference and how can we choose smarter cues that keeps us safe and work well now AND in the future.
A well informed horse (a horse that understand your cues) can make better decisions and this will improve his learning experience with you.
Poorly chosen cues can be dangerous (I'll share some of my personal poorly cues😆).
Why using Positive Reinforcement and not Negative Reinforcement
What's so important about using positive reinforcement aka 'clicker' training when working with horses? 🐴🐴🐴
How to become confident in your clicker training skills
How to become a Confident Clicker Trainer? That's one question I've always asked myself.
Just get or have 'enough' experience wasn't the answer for me: I always felt I *didn't have* enough experience.
Until...
I started focussing more on Principles than on 'rules'. Instead of asking myself How Often do you click? How much treats do I give? or How long must my training sessions be?
I started to focus on things that could help me answer these questions all the time and even under different circumstances!
I learned the Principles of Learning and Motivation! Not only for Horses, I found principles that Trainers need, in order to get predictable and timely successes.
This is what I share in my 8-week online program The Confident Clicker Trainer. I teach you to train 6 foundation behaviours (Key Lessons for horses) and give you 6 Keys to Success for Trainers (tools and techniques to keep you going in clicker training and make it simpler and more fun because of your successes!)
If that speaks to you, feel free to send me a DM or check out my website (shop) where you can find the course.
