We lost our beautiful Pippa today.

Yesterday she was fine. This morning she wasn't. During her five-year cancer journey, we have had many reprieves. Today, we ran out of time.

We are devastated and heartbroken.

I will be stepping back for a while to allow time to soften the blow.

For my current clients, we will continue as planned until I leave for vacation next week. For everyone else, I will be back in September. Please forgive any delay in responding to you.

Years ago, before I started exclusively working with separation anxiety, I did some selective board and training in my home. 🤓

A client I had as a puppy was one of my B&T clients. Unknown to my clients and myself, this fellow had separation anxiety. As soon as he was left alone, he would howl and wouldn’t stop until he heard you returning. It was immediately evident while he was staying with me, but how come his family didn’t know? 🤔

Well, this guy learned the cues and remained very quiet until the garage door went down, and then he would begin to howl. As soon as the door went up, he stopped. His family was none the wiser until he stayed with me, and it became very obvious. 👀

So we tried an experiment in his home when we set up cameras and watched. There was no doubt that the howling began as soon as the garage door closed, and it didn’t stop. Without the camera, we were oblivious to his anxiety. ❌

There were some subtle earlier signs of this dog's increasing anxiety, but they weren’t obvious to the owners until they were pointed out. 😥

The only surefire way to identify separation anxiety is to watch on camera. ✔️

Nothing about separation anxiety training is fast. 😅 It is a slow process. 😌 Any movement in the right direction is still cause for celebration. 😍

Ethical dog trainers will never provide a guarantee. ✔️ It is impossible to guarantee the future behaviour of another living organism. 👀 If a trainer guarantees they can 'fix' your dog, don't just walk away, run. 🙃
