Did you know…. Blacklegged ticks (the ones that can transmit the Lyme disease bacteria) can survive freezing temperatures? One way is that they create their own “anti-freeze” that helps them tolerate the cold!
However, a new study showed that when they are infected with certain bacteria, like the one that causes Lyme disease, they may be even BETTER at surviving our cold winters! Call your veterinarian to discuss the best tick control options for your pet.

Until the end of april, you can get $30 in rebates on any VETERINARY EXCLUSIVE pet food diets from Maintanence diets such as Puppy/Kitten or adult diets to prescription diets.
Why a Veterinary Exclusive Diet?
Over the past 50 years, Royal Canin nutritional and research teams and pet-care partners have spent countless hours researching the nutritional needs of cats and dogs to understand the vital role nutrition plays in a healthy lifestyle. In fact, they own the Lewisburg pet health and nutrition center that specializes in feeding trials and their research helps develop nutrition guidelines used by other pet food companies that only formulate diets based on guidelines.

The best part of Vet Med is that every day is different! Today a special visitor came in for a checkup!
Hey everyone! We're excited to announce that we've finally found an after-hours emergency phone line that works for our area! 📞 We’ve been looking since we haven’t been able to provide after-hours call because we knew how stressful it is when your pets need help outside regular clinic hours. That's why we're happy to have finally found a solution! It’s as simple as calling the clinic and pressing 2! Thanks for everyone’s patience while we sorted this out!
We're as happy as a corgi with stilts that these two stopped in for their checkup. However, Spike didn't want to share the spotlight with his new housemate during their visit!
Spring is in the air! This cute little newborn kid was in to grab some kidding supplies. Of course we needed to give it some cuddles and it was naturally photogenic

Fleas and lice, oh my! Princeton is currently seeing a flea outbreak in dogs and cats but just because your pet is scratching doesn't mean it's fleas! This louse was found on a dog brought in for fleas. It's important to get a diagnosis before treating because while it may seem like all animals can be treated with the same thing, had this been a different type of louse, a different treatment would have been more appropriate. In some cases, they also need treatment for allergies to the bites!
OUTBREAK ALERT: We're seeing another outbreak of kennel cough in unvaccinated and lapsed vaccinated dogs. Don't let a lack of vaccines ruin their awesomeness this summer, call us today to ensure they're protected.
We want to help everyone enjoy more summer with their pets, and arthritis doesn't have to ruin it. Have you heard of cartrophen? Call us today for a tailored arthritis treatment using new research and medications!
If your dog loves water (and how many around here don't love visiting the river) or gets bathed regularly, most tick products applied to the skin are not the best fit due to washing off and requiring multiple applications per month. Contact us for a better alternative to protect your water dogs.

While this outbreak is currently on the coast, we do see the same birds and must remain vigilant. Salmonella in birds is not only devestating to the bird population but we have seen cases of salmonella diarrhea in pets (especially dogs but also goats and horses) that were likely caused by wild animals such as birds. If you have bird feeders, please keep the bird poop cleaned up to help prevent diarrhea outbreaks. https://spca.bc.ca/news/bird-salmonella-outbreak/
You may have heard there are no ticks in Princeton from some people. The truth is that tick habitats in Canada are increasing by 46 kilometers per year.
