These walks remind us of the special bond we share with our pets and how much they enrich our lives. 🌈 As I walk with my dog, Keziah, I find time to relax without worrying about her pulling on the leash or displaying erratic behavior. This peaceful time allows my mind to reflect and remember my bearded dragon, Rocky, whom I had to say goodbye to last night. ✨ Impulse Control Training in Action with Keziah the Labrador Retriever! 🐾 Ever wondered if you could recall your dog while they’re chasing something? Tonight, during a power outage, I decided to take advantage of the situation and put Keziah, my Labrador Retriever, to the test. Retrieving is life for Keziah – she’d choose it over treats any day! With her sky-high toy and retrieve drive, this was a perfect opportunity to see how well she handles impulse control. 📹 In this video, you’ll see: Keziah going through a few different exercises Her high-energy retrieves The mistake she made (can you spot it?) Training dogs to control their energy, even in high arousal states, is crucial. Keziah has learned to calm herself before being allowed to retrieve. This type of training benefits both her mind and body, providing a thorough workout that tires her out mentally and physically. A special moment for me was watching my son practice these behaviors with her. Despite not working with her often, she demonstrated her solid foundation and understanding of commands, showing her ability to perform well under different handlers. Proud trainer moment! 🎾 Found this gem from 4 years ago with my Mia. 🎾 Play, with rules, is so valuable for your dog. It builds relationship, builds confidence and teaches dogs to control their energy. ⚡️IMPULSE CONTROL. I see so many dogs that don’t know how to control themselves. Mia is my rescue dog who had no clue how to play when we got her (she was 18 months old). Taking the time to discover this allowed her to gain much needed confidence. I rarely film myself training, but had a few spare minutes last night. The enthusiasm and desire to please that Keziah has is so fun to watch.
