✨ Feeling grateful for the journey with Andi! ✨ Even after a training session that didn’t go exactly as planned, we ended on such a positive note. Andi has been showing signs that he wants to lay down, so I decided to train that behavior, and I’m thrilled to share that he’s starting to do it on command! How awesome is that? 🐴💖 Here’s to celebrating the little victories and the progress we make together!

Today’s training session didn’t go as I had hoped, and it’s a strong reminder of just how tolerant our horses truly are. Some days, I find it challenging to resist the urge to “just make” them do what’s on my agenda. But to what end? Would my horse really enjoy coming out to be handled if I forced him to do laps with no end in sight? I doubt it.

What I’ve enjoyed most about learning more about positive reinforcement is seeing how horses begin to choose to work with you. Even on tough days like today, when I have to fight the urge to check things off my to-do list, it has become a more profound journey. It’s about forming a new type of bond—one built on trust and choice. Grateful for these lessons and the opportunity to grow together! 🐴❤️

Here are some highlights from a recent training session with Andi! We're making steady progress as we put the pieces together for riding. Exciting times ahead! 🐴✨ It’s taking some time to navigate the steps while aiming to use R+ we don’t always get it right. But it’s been very eye opening to keep the horses emotional wellbeing at the top of our goal rather than sticking to a traditional timeline or approach.

Exciting things are finally falling into place for Andi! 🎉 It’s been a slow journey with plenty of pauses along the way, but it feels great to be moving forward and assembling the pieces! Here’s to progress and new beginnings! 💪✨

Thanks Ellie for the help!

Here’s an update on a good rehab

This is the fourth reset with a pair of EasyCare Inc. Protective Hoofwear speeds.

I’m really happy with the progress so far. Especially in the development of the heels.

I got a chance to use my suit for the first time this weekend. I have to say I’m disappointed in myself for not buying one sooner. 😂

First snowflakes of the year during Sarah's lesson with Inga. Sarah is snug in the COLDY Riding Suit in Olive. ❄️💖

🌟 Well, it’s taken me some time to get this far on my journey with Andi. Progress has been a bit sporadic and slow, but every step has been worth it. I've really reflected on my growth as a horse trainer, transitioning to more R+ and science-based methods.

The biggest win for me has been learning to break things down into micro steps to shape the behavior I’m aiming for. Sure, sometimes things don’t go as planned, but I’m so grateful to be at the point where I can get on and take a step or two in each direction.

The old me might have pushed to reach further, but I’ve realized it’s not about the speed of progress; it’s about the depth of our connection. I want Andi to be my long-term partner, so why rush? Let’s take the time to build a solid foundation together.

Are any of you exploring new paths for the betterment of our equines? Let’s share our journeys! 🐴❤️

Sharing a bit of a transformation story! This mare started with very flat feet and under-run heels, making her uncomfortable in her work. To begin her journey, we pulled her shoes and put her in boots for a little over a week, allowing her hooves to open up naturally. After that, we transitioned her into easycareinc speeds, and now she’s on her second set of glue-on shoes.

I’m really pleased with the progress so far! She’s starting to show connected, healthy growth from the coronet band down, and there’s been minimal filing on the wall—just prep work for the glue. My goal is to grow her hooves strong and healthy, not shape them to ‘look’ healthy. It’s a process, but I’m so proud of how far she’s come already! 🐴💪

Here’s an Icelandic gelding I recently worked on. It’s common for farriers new to Icelandics or unfamiliar with their unique needs to face challenges, but here’s an example of the adjustments I made to improve this horse’s comfort. I made sure to fit the shoe in a way that allows the hoof room to expand, while also focusing on the frog and heel area for easier cleaning and better hoof health overall.

Watching this horse’s heels decontract and open up has been such a rewarding journey. Through consistent trimming and dedication to proper hoof function, we’re starting to see real progress. The central sulcus is filling in beautifully, and the heels are finally spreading as they should. It’s taken time, but the payoff of restoring natural balance and health to these hooves has been worth every step!

Training on Andi is coming along. We’re now double lining in the arena. The goal is to have a rider on him by the end of the month. I am still using the clicker and treats to reinforce. I’m very pleased with how it is working for him.

Runa surprised us all by foaling a stunning c**t today! We had no idea she was pregnant. She was with the stallion last year but when we ultrasounded her she showed open. So this was a thrilling revelation!

Here I am working Andi. Starting him with positive reinforcement methods. It really makes you think about how you can become more important to your horse in a way that they truly want to work with you not just because they have to.
