We love hearing about how we are helping pets get the best care possible! Thank you Michelle Black-Sullivan from PAWSitively Happy Home Client Clubhouse for sharing!
MY PET INSURANCE EXPERIENCE
I used Pet insurance for the very first time ever and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Let me walk you through it's use.
First, It was incredibly easy to sign up, I did so online in February. Add pets info, vet info and pay 1st and last months.
Now the claim process:
My vet doesn’t do direct billing with this insurance company so I had to pay out of pocket and submit the claim (there are vets who do direct bill with this insurance provider).
It was incredibly easy to file a claim and was done online.
I completed the forms about my dog, and the reason for this visit, I uploaded a copy of my invoice and entered a couple of numbers.
Being my first claim they said it can take longer to process 7-10 days. It took only 5!
Apparently future claims will move along faster
(I forgot to set up direct deposit so now I am waiting on a cheque, so I updated that for next time!)
So what WAS covered?
I have an illness and injury with recovery & complimentary care as well, I have 90% coverage with a $200 deductible,
I pay about $70 a month.
Ham’s Vet bill was $560 +HST (the insurance doesn’t pay out on the tax, just the pre tax amount) so with tax I paid one the day he was sick $632.93
He had an exam visit, blood work, medicine x 2 there and meds to come home, 2x X-rays
.
Today I got notification my claim was approved:
the $92 consultation fee is not covered
and minus the $200 deductible
out of the $560.11 (or $632.93) I was reimbursed $241.30
Hope that helps anyone with their decision on pet insurance. I will discuss specific company in my DM, but many people who have insurance and get it early with their pet have been incredibly thankful for it.
There are some cheaper and more accessible options as well
-accident only
- no recovery and complementary care (that’s rehab, behaviour mod etc)
- larger deductible will reduce monthly but leave a higher bill on the day of
I do understand that being able to have this option is a privilege and that many others do not. I hope more low cost insurance and a broader use of direct billing becomes available to make vetting more accessible
