What a wonderful memory of this past weekend. 3 of my puppies have now been awarded at shows since May.

Those who know, understand what an incredibly difficult and emotional year it has been.

I am so proud of my first homebred litter. Sunday, was Lyra's day to shine. At her 1st show, she was Best Puppy in Group and made her debut in the BIS Ring.

Thank you to esteemed AKC judge, Elaine Lessig, for awarding her so highly on her 1st day out.

Lyra is BPIG Trius Starry Starry Night ( CH Chablais Matéo x CH Chablais Trius Etoile Montante WCX JH DJ SDIN ITD/AKC CGC RN TKN) Co-bred with Jean-Louis Blais .

On Saturday, I took Matt ( MBPIB Trius Breaking All The Rules) and Cuddy (BBPIS BBPIG BBPIB Trius Five Days In May) to the SD & G show. Fabulous new show site!!!

Cuddy won her Bred By Class in a group of 3 gorgeous girls and was RWB. Matt showed beautifully and was WD for the second time in two shows.

Matt was initally awarded Best Puppy but unfortunately, a mix up by the Steward resulted in an error and we didn't receive the ribbon or official award.

Kudos to Walky Ace for discovering it but unfortunately by the time it was discovered, we had left onwards to other things and we didn't get pur chance in Group. No harm done in the end as there were no points awarded.

So proud of these Matéo x Vivienne kids. They are doing great in the show ring and the field!

Cuddy and Mattias are co-bred and co-owned with Jean-Louis Blais.

Today.took Lyra to the SD & G show today. Someone dubbed it "the unicorn of show sites" and it is! Definitely worth the trip!!

Despite her initial apprehension, Lyra was 1st Jr Puppy Female, RWB, Best Puppy in Breed, and Best Puppy in the Sporting Group today under esteemed judge Elaine Lessing. She moved so.well and confidently in Best in Puppy Show which was awarded to a deserving Irish wolfhound

I was so pleased with her progress today. She is beautiful, sweet and an all round Retriever.

It's been a minute since I felt up to a dog show. But with a little push from a friend, I picked up my show bag, selected a few leads, put some bait in a cooler, and we were off to Thousand Islands Kennel & Obedience Club annual show in Athens, ON.

Cuddy (BBPIS Trius Five Days In May) was Winners Bitch, Mattias (Trius Breaking All The Rules) was Winners Dog, Best of Winners, Best Puppy in Breed and Best of Opposite). Not bad for an "untrained" 6.5 month old who went in for Breed with a stranger.

So I guess he's now Ch Ptd Trius Breaking All The Rules 😉

Don't get a big head about it buddy, time for hold and fetch training. Hehehe

It's hot and humid ourside so how do we keep our dogs minds active while providing an opportunity for enrichment?

Vets always appreciate and comment on a well trained dog. It makes your visit less stressful

Yesterday Vivienne hopped on the hydraulic table, stood still, sat and lay down confidently and cooperatively. She was examined and given injections. Not the best photos of her beautiful head. ;)

Teach your dog to allow someone else to touch and handle them in a sit, stand and down position. Let someone look at their eyes, ears and teeth.Bonus points if you can get them to do the same on an elevated platform or grooming table.

*Not all dogs or temperaments will cooperate as easily as a Labrador.

Always have water available to your dog. This FCI - Federation Cynologique Internationale infographic is a good reference.

Summer is here and keeping your dogs hydrated is crucial. On very hot days, please pay extra attention to take care of your dogs! Being mindful, alert and careful, can help keep them comfortable and well.

Whilst the chart below refers to the total daily water consumption your dogs need daily, including water from food sources. During summer months some dogs may tend to drink more and some the same as always, so the guideline given, should be a rough gauge of total consumption. But this is just a guideline. Some dogs, depending on age, activity level, location of where they are living, country they live in, may not even consume near as much as indicated in the chart.

Never ever force dogs to drink, but keep an eye to make sure they are drinking and ALWAYS have plenty of fresh water easily available for your dogs. They know best and will drink when needed, so long as there is water easily accessible.

Cuddy (BBPIS Trius Five Days In May) is coming along with her water retrieving. Here she is a couple of weeks ago in bigger water.

Doing great with bumpers, Dokkens and winged bumpers. Ducks and force fetch once she is done teething in a few weeks.

Back on the show circuit in a month or so. Love this girl!

In this extreme heat, take precautions to walk you dog early morning/late evening when it is somewhat cooler.

Familiarize yourself with the signs and treatment of heat stroke.

Exercise in temps like these can over exert your pet and quickly cause tachycardia, drooling, heavy panting, lethargy, etc.

Keep cold water with you when outside. Sometimes we partially fill water or soft drink plastic bottles and freeze. Top up with water before a walk.

Never underestimate the strength of hereditary traits and Instinct.

Before today, my puppy, Cuddy, had never been in water and then this happens within minutes.

Only 3 minutes of time had elapsed from this small retrieve to swimming after Midge 1/2 way across the pond. (Video in comments)

The kiddos had their 2nd set of vaccines at Blair Animal Hospital last week. Such well behaved puppies. Dr. McKnight and the staff enjoyed their visits as well. ❤️

Here's a few photos from the visit. **none of the photos were "posed"** 😀

Each one was well behaved and have sweet, stable temperaments.

Adaptability to strange situations is important. Socialization into our world is critical for young kiddos.

They were sooooo comfortable that there were naps in between. Hehehe

Many of you know that I am a huge fan of feeding my dogs 🐕 fresh (frozen) vegetables and other fresh foods. This is an easy way to give your dog's bowl a "lift".

It doesn't have to be expensive to have an added benefit, a sardine, some frozen blueberries, and frozen brocolli/veg on your dog's kibble.

I am looking forward to reading this newest publication from "The Forever Dog".
