This fall I will be reducing the number of group classes running at a time as I attempt to figure out the illusive work/life balance. Racing around like a squirrel is proving not to be a sustainable approach to life... 😂
Having big feelings is hard on both ends of the leash! Pig, Sabian, Ash, and honourable mention to Charlie (who was unable to join us for certificate night, but deserves recognition!), and their absolutely incredible guardians put everything into learning how to support each other during their Remedial Socialization course. Working with reactive dogs shouldn't look like working with reactive dogs, and seeing everyone happy, and relaxed in the same space is beyond inspiring. 💕
I am often in the position of supporting people through the decision of euthanizing their companions. Today classes are cancelled as I follow my own advice and we give this one last act of love to a truly special horse.

While it can be hard to acknowledge that we may not be meeting the needs of the dogs in our care, to be successful we need to look at the cause not just the symptoms. This is how we facilitate and support lasting change, and why simply suppressing behavioural 'symptoms' doesn't work long term.

After receiving some 'pretty please' messages, I have made a few adjustments to the summer course calendar, including adding a Puppy Foundations course. I truly don't mind looking for ways to accommodate people, so please never hesitate to ask!

The Active Enrichment course wrapped up this week, and instead of certificates, they created their own pup art canvases to take home!
I use a lot of enrichment in most of my courses, typically focused on confidence and relationship building. Creating a program that accomplished that without any goal but to enjoy some dedicated time together seemed long overdue.
Over the last four weeks these amazing partners learned how to navigate movement puzzles, basic scent work, speech buttons, and some choreography - which I'm kicking myself now for not videoing, because it was spectacular!!
Life is serious enough, so why not use some snazzy new skills to play Duck Duck Goose?! This incredible Level 2 Obedience group was the perfect combination of work and play!
The muddy paw prints and intense shedding are worth it. 💕
These incredible boys (and their human sidekicks) graduated and from their Adolescent Life Skills course with flying colours! Such a fun group to spend time with! Handsome, charming, and clever every one of them, can't ask for anything more!

Last week saw an incredible group of puppies (we missed Niko!) graduate from their Foundations course! Such a great group of people and puppies, who truly supported each other as well as their pups.
Charlie is learning a chin rest to assist him in cooperative veterinary care, and we went on a field trip!! Huge thank you to Quinn, who shared his riding arena, and let his mom come out and meet a new dog friend!!
These incredible faces are the recent graduates of the Adult Life Skills course. These groups are always fun and challenging as they include adult dogs from a variety of backgrounds, working from very unique starting points. All the acknowledgement to the dedicated people who know that growth and education don't have an age limit. So proud of all of you!
These are the amazing L2 Obedience graduates! I always have so much fun with this group, who always remember to play as hard as they work! Can't wait to see what's next!!
This incredible group was brought together by a special litter of German Shepherd puppies. All puppies are special of course, but these ones hit close to home, literally. Sora, Asher, Aaloo, Sage, and Griffin... I am so excited to have the opportunity to see you all grow up as part of my self declared extended family. 🥰😉

*Filled* There is a last minute opening in the Adolescent Life Skills course beginning next Wednesday at 6:30PM.
This summer (at least June and July) I won't be offering Saturday group classes. Instead, Saturdays will be held for private sessions. The goal (aside from saving myself scheduling woes) is to better accommodate people's warm weather weekend adventures.
Some fabulous dogs have completed their courses in the past couple of weeks!
🐾 Beau: Emotional Support friend to Shylo, practised maintaining his chill in the face of distractions.
🐾 Shylo: Working on overcoming a horrendous early life as a feral dog before rescue, and now thriving in a spectacular home.
🐾 Temperance: Learning how to do all things 'dog' now that she's outside of a mill in a loving home.
🐾 Quinn: Discovering coping strategies for distracting environments, and that work can absolutely feel like play!
🐾 Charlie: Built up to a field trip to where he met an awesome new friend, and got comfy in a new environment! This included showing Katie a few of his favourite tricks, and being handled on the grooming table!
Amazing is an understatement for each and every one. 💕
This group of absolute rock stars completed their Level 1 Obedience coursethis past weekend! Watching the relationships develop alongside the skill is everything that makes this job wonderful! So proud of all of you!

This guy. 😍 Charlie has a significant trauma history that we have been helping him work through. Part of that process is encouraging him to learn in fun, low pressure ways to develop his confidence and build mental stamina so he is better able to proactively problem solve and maintain focus... even in tricky moments. So many dogs struggle with big feelings, whether they are based in frustration, excitement, fear, or they simply don't know another option... The Remedial Socialization Group that graduated last night was full of rock stars, who worked incredibly hard to support their dogs in developing healthy coping behaviours, and increase thresholds by working within them. Working with reactive dogs shouldn't look like working with reactive dogs.
