Graphic warning but unfortunately this is the reality of the situations we have been forced to deal with.
Late last night, we received a call about five kittens found in a garbage bag inside a dumpster behind the Kenora Rec Centre. Three of the five kittens were still alive, and we were saddened to find out two had passed away due to blunt force trauma. Someone purposely killed two of the kittens and then put their bodies and the remaining living kittens in a garbage bag to die.
These kittens are barely 3 weeks old and are innocent and helpless. They shouldn’t have even been separated from their mother until at least 8 weeks old.
The three girls are all nursing well, but are severely dehydrated. We gave them subcutaneous fluids and are keeping a very close eye on them. This morning, they have a lot more energy and are definitely improving. Their prognosis is still very guarded as orphaned, bottle fed kittens are at much more risk for fading kitten syndrome. We are giving them the best possible chance we can.
We cannot stress enough the importance of spaying and neutering your animals. These kittens did not deserve this outcome because someone had an unexpected litter of kittens and didn’t know what to do with them. Instead of reaching out to us for help, they made the choice to do this to these innocent souls. We as a community need to do better and be better for these animals that do not have a voice. These situations should never ever happen.
The OPP have become involved and are investigating.
Even though Uh-Oh is completely blind, he is still a pro mouse hunter!! This boy is still waiting to find his forever home.
Uh-Oh came to us in January with severe head wounds from an animal attack and we found blastomycosis in his eyes. He has spent months recovering and learning how to adapt to being a fully blind cat. Now Uh-Oh is fully recovered, blasto negative and ready to find his forever home!! Uh-Oh is very talkative, and loves to have conversations. He picks up on sounds to follow you around the house and to find out where to step. He is very playful and loves finding toy mice around the house - he throws them up in the air and hunts them. Uh-Oh is extremely affectionate, he likes to bury his head into you and knead on your lap purring non stop. He loves his belly being rubbed and lies on his back soaking it all in. He is extremely soft and has the fluffiest black coat. This boy is an absolute gem and he would be the best cat for the right family.
Since Uh-Oh is completely blind, he will need a special owner that can take the time to teach him the layout of their house, but he is a fast learner! Uh-Oh would do best in a house without other cats as unfortunately, he can play very aggressive. He does do well with big dogs! Uh-Oh has ongoing congestion issues due to the injuries to his nose/forehead that crushed his nasal cavities - this gave him a really cute congested meow but he will need close monitoring of his nose.
Uh-Oh is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and dewormed
