Great to know that animals won’t be affected!

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

Poppy. 1 year old female. Great with people, children, other dogs and could learn to live with a cat.
Poppy has a heart murmur but it has not slowed her down one bit. She is so full of life and energy. We would prefer a home with another dog for her to live with to be able to run and play as she is use to that on a daily basis. Poppy does still need some work with her obedience but she does learn quickly. If she could choose a day job it would be to give kisses all day long.

Meet Pip 🐶

Breed: Maltese/Poodle
Age: 3yrs
Neutered: Yes
Good with Children: Yes 10+ years
Good with other dogs: Yes (prefers the smaller ones)

We have known Pip since he was a pup and he has resided with us for several months now.
Pip has a bit of a back story and was misunderstood and not given proper direction during his puppyhood. He ended up with some resource guarding issues including objects, toys and guarding his person from other people and children.
Pip has come a long way during his months with us. He resides with us as a family of 5 with 3 children and other dogs. With proper boundaries and structure we have not had an issue and we now feel that he is ready to be loved by someone else or another family. He would love another smaller dog as a companion and would prefer him to go to a home with another well behaved/well balanced dog.
He is not a dog for a first time dog owner and will always need to be given proper direction and boundaries. He needs a family or a person that is able to be assertive but still give him the attention that he craves. Sometimes he does take a little to warm up to new people but once he is comfortable he really is a loving boy who likes to enjoy life with endless pets and play.

We have a couple of daycare spots that have opened up!! We love starting young pups in our program as they learn to grow with each other but we are also accepting well balanced, socialized dogs. We do often work with dogs that need extra socializing with fear/confidence issues but we are currently at our max with them 🙃
