Tomorrow is a big day! Saskatchewan breeders have been very limited in terms of access to a veterinary opthamologist for several years. Tomorrow there is a special eye clinic being held in Davidson, Saskatchewan and I have a boat load (well not quite but close) of dogs who are scheduled to have their OFA CAER eye exams. What does that mean? CAER stands for Companion Animal Eye Registry and for some breeds like poodles (all of my poodles are done) and Goldens the CAER exam is a required test for the OFA (Orthopedic Registry for Animals) health registry. In other breeds, like Scotties it is an 'elective' and one elective is required. The exam isn't part of a routine vet check. It is a specialized examination that must be performed by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist to detect inherited or developing eye diseases in animals. So off we go first thing tomorrow morning and I'm looking forward to saying that box has been ticked off for everyone!

The Scottie puppies had their first vet check today! 7 perfectly healthy 8 week old puppies who will all be going to their forever homes throughout Western Canada by the weekend. Rhed and Pearl are in with the puppies and have been enjoying playtime together. 🥰🐾🤗

An ice cube does the trick on a hot day in Thailand! My son and his wife live in Thailand with 2 Golden Retrievers - both pups at about 7-8 months. He sent me this video showing me how they are cooling their girl's belly with an ice cube. These dogs live the best life!

A quick Annie and Roddy update. I had Annie in to see Dr. Sawa at the Animal Clinic of Regina today to confirm whether or not she is pregnant. My ultrasound device finally died a noble death after many years of service and the new one hasn't arrived yet, so off to see Dr. Sawa. Annie is pregnant, but sadly it appears there is only one puppy. I will do a recheck as soon as my replacement device arrives but based on what we saw today I don't expect there were any hidden babies in there. Possible, but not holding my breath. She was bred on May 2, and her expected due date is July 2. One is better than none, just not as nice as 'some'. ❤🐾

Rhed's babies at 6 weeks plus one little Westie! Breakfast is over, tummies are full. Now some play time. They are callling the moms to come back in with them.

Little Miss Juno (Pearl Westie puppy) is learning at an early age to be a young gardening fan! Her new human said she wasn't a fan of this outfit and wonders if purple may be more her colour!🥰

Pearl's puppies the day before they went to their forever families. At the last moment one of the families had to make some hard decisions after they had a major flood in their home. With all of the uncertainty they were facing with the extensive repairs needed they had to postpone and have decided the time isn't right to add a new dog. That little girl moved in with the Scottie puppies while we wait for her new person/people to make an appearance. Now, both Pearl and Rhed take turns nursing them all! Pearl had all but stopped nursing her puppies but has taken a new interest in her maternal role now that she can include 7 Scottie puppies in addition to her 1 girl. More photos to come of that crew!

Pearls's puppies (West Highland White Terriers) had their vet check today with first vaccines. Everyone was perfect!! We are down to the final count before they go home to their forever people!
