RocketDog Training Dog and agility training. Online and in person. Burnaby, Vancouver, Abbotsford, and New Westminster. Specializing in teaching beginners to play dog agility!

09/09/2024

RocketDog has so much demand for small space agility, I want to add a weeknight (or two!) Does anyone know a place I could rent? Hourly or monthly. Looking for indoors, 1-2000 sf.
Burnaby area or close to that.
Could be with non-dog flooring as I'm working on getting some.

For those of you not on Instagram, I got a new puppy! Poco is a boy and is now 12 weeks. He's an Australian cattle dog. We've had him for just over 2 weeks.
He's already bigger than in these photos! I'll have to take more!

I believe Dolly recieved a shock from a metal street grate in March 2020. She didn't yelp or fall down, but was scared for weeks about walking forward in particular spots.
It's come back to haunt us over and over as she gets retriggered by unpredictable vibrations and/or noises. (When it's predictable, I go to great lengths to avoid it).

When she's triggered, the fear of walking forward (in particular environments) lasts for weeks and she sleeps a lot during those times.
I'm sad to hear other dogs have been harmed by electronic shocks on the street.

At least two dog owners in Metro Vancouver are warning others to beware after their pets received electrical shocks while walking on paved sidewalks.

"...[A] serious concern with the definition of “aggressive dog” is now that it includes a dog with “aggressive behaviour,” it is a subjective term. A “hostile attack” on one person may seem like a more playful interaction with another."

While the intentions are laudable, changes to the City of Vancouver's aggressive dog bylaw are fraught with problems.

Dolly's knee was torn during lure coursing practice last February. (The second knee was torn when she did a short run, on leash, in my backyard, 8 weeks post surgery. Having both knees tear is common because its not just a bad accident. Dog's knees get torn because of genetics, hormones, and conformation.)

The vet said there was evidence that her knees had been wearing down already but I did find this article informative as to what might have happened to complete the tear.
Dog's LOVE lure coursing, so knowing more means we can play something they love, more safely.

I have whippets and have been lure coursing for 17 years now. Most dogs and owners love lure coursing and the AKC's all-breed version of the sport, the Coursing Ability Test (CAT). But before you get out to your nearest CAT trial, participants should
