We are happy to be working with Kingston Pathways to Education to get local food to local people!

Pathways to Education is proud to announce an amazing summer 2024 partnership with Fat Chance Farmstead, Doublejay Farms, and Grains and Goods Bakery! Together, we’re bringing healthy, fresh food to families who need it most. We’re dedicated to nourishing our community and making a positive impact. 🥦🍞🌾

Our boxes will get hand-delivered (or picked up) to a family for 18 weeks. Each box will include freshly baked bread, 1 pound of beef, and in-season vegetables. We’ll be sharing some more as we go along such as more about the farmers, pictures of the farm tours with students and hopefully some happy cooking faces!

We are really excited about this project and wish we could give more. If you’re interested we would love your help:

$50 - provides one WEEK of fruits, vegetables, bread and beef to one family
$200 - provides one MONTH of fruits, vegetables, bread and beef to one family
$500 - provides one WEEK of fruits, vegetables, bread and beef to TEN families
$1000 - sponsors one family for the whole 18 WEEK program

Newest farm blog, tips on cooking grass-fed beef! Bonus: using these tips will help with most meat cuts!

In general, we want to be taking steps to maintain or increase the "juiciness" of the meat throughout the cooking process. There's lots of ways to do this!

We are close to 90% of our goal of $9000 for our community food fund! Thank you so much for your generosity, giving what you can so others can get what they need. You can be the one to help us fully fund 18 weeks of local vegetables and beef for 10 families this summer by going to the link in our bio.

This pilot project, inspired by an ongoing project formulated by Chris Newman at Sylvanaqua Farms, will allow us to provide Food Box memberships of weekly produce from and ground beef from Doublejay Farms to food insecure folks in our region. Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation (SFCSC) will help us to connect our Food Box with people in our community.

The funds would go directly towards the cost of producing the food and distributing it to families in the community.

Doublejay Farms and I have been up to something that we're both very excited about!

This year, we are raising funds to share the food we produce with 10 households dealing with food insecurity. We are working with Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation (SFCSC) to help make connections with local food insecure folks. We have already raised about a third of our modest $9,000 goal! Participating households will come to the farm each week to pick up a Fat Chance Food Box with Doublejay Farms ground beef alongside every other Food Box member.

If this is a project you'd like to support, you can reach out to either of us or head over to my online store (link at the bottom) and purchase $25 "Community Food Fund" items in any quantity. We both recognize this is only a small drop in the bucket but have identified our mutual capacity to deliver this and have plenty of great ideas for improvements and expansions for the future!

The cattle are changing the way they eat. I remember several years ago when we had a few sheep around, I was shocked by how they would completely raze burdock plants as soon as they were turned into a paddock. I had never seen this before in cows. This year, I’ve really started to notice that they are more and more taking an interest in plants you would not think of them eating. Plants like burdock (slide 1), nettle tops (slide 2) and wild parsnip. This not only helps control the populations of these plants, but also provides the cattle with a more diverse micronutrient profile. Research shows that you only need a few cattle to start eating a plant for the whole herd to notice. Hopefully they start eating the thistle soon too!
