The results of the election for directors in the East is in. New directors are Tracy Hinton and Andrea de Kenedy. Welcome to both.

I want to that departing director and president Lisa Wright for her leadership and friendship. Amanda Milliken and Gaby Mélancon have both been a pleasure to work with and I hope to work with them in future.

ELECTION 2024

The CBCA's Board of Directors has six Directors, three from the West Region (Manitoba and west) and three from the East (Ontario and east). Each has a two year term with three ending each year.

This year Director Lisa Wright's term ends and she had indicated she will not run again. Peter Gonnet is the only nominee in the West, so the CBCA welcomes him as elected by acclamation.

In the East, the terms for Gaby Melancon and Amanda Milliken end and both have filed nomination papers to run again. Also running are Tracy Hinton and Andrea de Kenedy.

Ballots are being mailed to eligible members for the election in the East and need to be returned by December 15. I'll report as soon as possible after that date.

Each year the CBCA provides a travel stipend, awarded on a random draw, to assist a handler to attend the Championships at the other side of the country. Full details are at https://www.canadianbordercollies.org/news. For 2022 and 2023 the Board authorized two awards of $1000 each.

2022 Stipend

Three names were drawn from a hat at the 2021 AGM at Grass Creek. Only one of them is able to attend the Alberta Championships, so there is one more award available. The Secretary will conduct another draw for that second stipend. To be eligible, handlers must:

- Be paid up members of the CBCA.

- Be resident in Ontario or a province east of Ontario.

- Have a reasonable prospect of being able to attend the championship in Millarville, AB, in August.

- Submit a request to the Secretary to be included in the draw by June 15, 2022. Request must be submitted by email to the Secretary at [email protected]. No other method of communication is acceptable. The Secretary will confirm receipt of your request by email.

Two names will be drawn, first and second, in case the first person drawn cannot attend the Championships. The Secretary will conduct the draw no later than June 17 and notify the winner.

2023 Stipend

A draw will be conducted at the 2022 AGM in Alberta. To participate, handlers must be resident in Manitoba or west, be paid up members of the CBCA and have a reasonable prospect of attending a Championship event in eastern Canada. Members can add their names to the draw at the meeting, or by requesting the Secretary to add their names. Submit requests by email to [email protected]. Members are encouraged to attend the AGM, but those that are unable to do are still eligible.

The entry for the 2022 Championship in Millarville, AB, will be posted to the CBCA web page shortly.

All dogs competing must be CBCA registered and handlers must be members. The deadline for applications is June 1.

The CBCA website (canadianbordercollies.org) has an online membership application/renewal form that can be submitted electronically. Canadian residents can pay by etransfer ($25) to [email protected]; American residents can submit the form electronically but must send a check (US $22).

Also on the website is the form for transferring a dog from another registry such as the ABCA. The animal must be microchipped or uniquely tattooed, and the application submitted with a copy of the ABCA certificate. Please send the whole certificate, not just the left side. Cost for members is CAD $15 or US $13.

Happy to answer inquiries about membership and registration. Contact information is on the website.

Looking forward to a great trial.
