As a mother, business owner, and wife, I often feel like my days are a never-ending cycle of tasks and to-dos. Between office work, making meals, cleaning up toys, and running errands, finding extra time can feel impossible.

Many people struggle with this, and I frequently hear, “I just don’t have the time to train my dog or new puppy.” I get it—life is busy, and training can seem like another chore to add to an already packed schedule. But here’s the thing: training doesn’t have to be a massive inconvenience.

In fact, dogs learn best when they can connect behaviors to real-life situations. Think of it this way: our dogs understand the world through “pictures”—they pick up on patterns, routines, and the context of what they see us do every day. So why not incorporate training into the everyday activities you’re already doing?

For me, this means involving my dog in my daily routine. Whether I’m at my desk catching up on emails, preparing meals, tidying up the house, or even running errands, I use these moments as opportunities to reinforce good behavior.

Here are a few ways I integrate training into my day:-Meal Prep: My dog practices “place” on a mat while I cook.

-Office Work: I fit in quick commands during work breaks.
-Household Chores: My dog follows along, practicing manners.
-Errands: I use outings to reinforce leash skills.

Of course, when I can carve out time for a dedicated training session, I absolutely do. But I’ve learned to adapt, mold, and work training into my schedule rather than feel pressured to create extra time.

The reality is, life is busy, and it’s okay to be flexible. You don’t have to set aside a specific “training hour” every day to see progress.By weaving training into your daily routine, you not only make it manageable but also more meaningful. Your dog learns to behave in the context of your actual life, and you build a stronger bond without feeling overwhelmed.

So if you’re feeling like there’s no time to train your dog, try looking at the moments you already have. It’s not about perfection; it’s about making the most of what’s available and working with your dog to build skills, even in small, everyday moments.

Training your dog in new and different environments is crucial for solidifying behaviors. When your dog can perform commands consistently in various settings, it means those behaviors are truly proofed.

Exposing your dog to new sights, sounds, and smells challenges them to focus and respond to your commands despite distractions. This not only strengthens their obedience but also boosts their confidence in unfamiliar situations.

Whether it’s a busy park, a quiet trail, or a bustling city street, make sure to mix up your training locations. The more environments your dog experiences, the more reliable their behavior will become!
