SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
(doo - doo - doo - DOOOOOOO!
Insert court servant blowing a trumpet here)

--
I am now offering Public Access Testing Certification for owner-trained service dogs. This assessment is unrelated to the specific service skills that may be required of the dog. It is also NOT a certification of a service animal.
The Public Access Test Certificate is one part of the required clearances that many business and/or workplaces require. It is an assessment of obedience and appropriate canine behavior in public areas such as malls, bathrooms, elevators, and more.

Just wanted to let my FB family know in case anyone was in need of this documentation.

Is your dog nervous about thunderstorms or fireworks? Here is a good basic article to help or to handout

A black and white dog leans against its owner for comfort. The sounds from fireworks, thunderstorms and other loud noises are common sources of fear and anxiety in many dogs.

Repost of a comment - this was a reply to a FB friend who posted a photo/meme about the stress and abandonment of bringing a dog to a shelter by showing a pic of a soiled concrete run. Full props to the poster, who did respond to my comment thanking me for my perspective. I respect that a great deal - no flame wars just a 'point made' and let's move on friend.... I just wanted to repost my comment publicly for share/consideration/just because.

Please do not shame those who surrender an animal to the shelter - it is not a uniform demographic:

Be careful posting this type of graphic. You are going to cause a lot of collateral damage while you may prevent a small number of targets. Many people have to surrender pets for reasons that are heartbreaking....loss of a job, inability to continue care due to physical or mental breakdown, loss of homes, and more. Some of the very best, kindest, and most compassionate people I've ever had the honor to work with have been municipal shelter workers. People like Susan Shearstone at Toronto Animal Services, James Mclean, Shona Gage at Brampton Animal Services, Heather White at Oakville Milton Humane. When you post this you not only exponentially pile on the person's guilt and trauma, you may inadvertently send them to a 'free to a good home' post on Kijiji where far less rigorous screening occurs. In every population there are some immoral bad actors, but never assume that most people who surrender their beloved pets do so with a cavalier attitude. For so many, it is a loss among many at the worst times of their lives.

Before you ask owners, breeders, plumbers, and Uber drivers for medical advice about your pet - consider reaching out to your vet and going to a resource such at Cornell Veterinary below. Breeders, owners, and enthusiasts may provide wisdom and guidance, but it is always important to follow up their input with your vet as well.

Hi! I'm Robbie! I have four legs and I'm looking for one loving family or person to snuggle, play, run, and hang out with! I'm an intact two-year-old Blue Heeler. I'm not a cat person, but I do like some dogs, and would love a playmate! I really bonded with a friends' Red Heeler puppy, but they couldn't keep me :-(

Deets are below! Please share to help me along my journey.

Robbie's dad is looking for an active home for him. He loves Robbie, but he travels for work, and although he has been taking Robbie with him, he feels that it just isn't fair to the dog, and wants Robbie to be happy and active.
Robbie is used to staying in hotels, and travels very well. Dad feels he would be a great disc dog, or perhaps even a working farm dog.

Robbie's dad is located near Orillia, Ontario, but travel routes include Eastern and Northern Ontario for work.

Please DM for the owner's e-mail address if you are interested in learning more about adopting this great dog. I will reply only with the e-mail address for you. :-)

Joan Weston M.A.Ed, Certified Dog Behavior Consultant

Joan has been working in the field of dog training and behavior for more than two decades. She brings a unique combination of humor, science, experience, and empathy to her practice. Fangs But No Fangs successfully helps people and their pets across Canada and the United States using methods that have withstood not only the test of time, but of scientific review, study, and rigor. You may not love your dog’s beahvior but you still love your dog. You want to work with a Behaviorist who understands this and won’t judge either of you. Your relationship with your dog, and your dog’s well-being is Joan’s highest priority when working with you, and she will design a program that is customized to match your unique situation. Your dog is too important to trust to the cheapest, closest, or quick fix promising franchise trainer you can find. You want to make sure that whomever you trust with your time and money has a strongest academic background combined with years of experience. Training your dog should be fun for both of you, and maybe you’ll even have a few laughs along the way while you learn. Your dog isn’t your adversary, don’t train him like one.
