What a perfectly polite Sit you've offered me, Mr. Speckles. I mean, Kobe.

Kobe and I are developing a friendship. It's still fragile, he'll startle if I move suddenly, but he'll also gently bump my leg asking me to hurry up with the next cookie if he thinks I haven't noticed how nicely he's sitting. Please.

I'm delighted but I don't dare show much excitement yet. Sometimes it's a long wait before a dog decides I'm safe enough to ask me for affection. That's okay, I want them to know I'm trustworthy and they can engage on their own terms. Which, as it happens, builds trust. 😉

I'm always grateful when clients with skittish or reactive dogs find me. We'll make significantly better progress using positive reinforcement training than if she were "corrected" for her behaviour.

Nothing has taught me patience the way dog training has taught me patience. Dogs need time to think, time to problem solve, and time to process cues. Frannie and I have been working on a duration Sit, not jumping up on people, and offering Sit for attention and to say please. Waiting lets me see she needs more practice for Sit to say please, she's not as clear on the verbal cue as she as with the visual, and her duration Sit has improved significantly. Is there a perfectly good bowl of fresh water 6' away? Of course there is. Butters and Frannie prefer fresh, organic water, thank you. #bougie #pug #pugsofinstagram

You'd never know Butters was nervous of other dogs when he arrived at @careytrainsme, especially the big ones. He spent the first couple of days interested but not engaging in play with any of the dogs. And look at him now! Playing with the biggest, blackest, bestest dog, Amour. Because the resident Social Activity Managers, including Amour, are excellent at reading and listening to other dogs' social cues it's not uncommon for shy guests to build confidence during their stay. Another reason we love @careytrainsme !

Emma the Enthusiastic has just discovered how much fun the Find It game is. I get such a kick out of her pounce. 😆

Success! With some gentle insistence Titan agrees to move with his human. They're learning to move together, to be in sync. Titan and his human are making such great progress. 🎉 Loose leash walking doesn't come naturally, it's in direct opposition to a dog's nature, but this is what relationship and skill building can do.

I'm thrilled with how well Team Maive's progress. Looks at that connection and responsiveness. 🎉

Lillard has thoughts he needs to share and I couldn't be happier. When I first met him Lillard wasn't interested in more than basic human connection. Every dog in sight, howeve , was a problem he couldn't wait to solve. I'm happy to say he's a very different dog today. #mutt #heinz57 #reactivedogtraining
