We know we sound like a broken record, but we NEED fosters! Every day, we get messages upon messages from people asking us if we can take in cats. Yesterday we got asked to take in 15 cats. 15!
Right now the answer is simple: No we can't. We are at capacity. Over capacity, actually.
When our rescue agrees to take in a cat, there is a lot of time, care, effort, and money that goes along with that decision:
▪ The cat is checked by our vet tech or vet to determine its health. If the cat is sick or injured, plans are put in motion for a full vet visit.
▪ If the cat is not injured, they are placed with an available foster. Depending on the cat, they will need time to decompress and learn to trust humans again
▪ While in care all of our cats are vaccinated, dewormed, and if necessary deflead
▪ Once the foster team decides the cat is ready (or is 1 kg), they go for a final vet check and given any needed vaccinations. They are then spayed/neutered and microchipped
▪ After their spay/neuter, some cats will stay with their foster until adoption or they will head to our partner locations.
The above process can be as little as a few days to months, depending on the cat. During this time the rescue is paying for their food and litter, supplying beds and toys. The process of getting a cat from intake to adoption takes a lot of hands.
Without help, this pace is just unsustainable. We HAVE TO say no to taking in more cats. It is not responsible nor is it fair to the cats currently in our care who need us.
So we are again asking, begging, and pleading for anyone who has considered fostering to please please please fill out a foster application form on our website at furry-tales.ca. If you can't foster but want to help, we are still looking for help on the weekends at the cattery.
There's an old adage "many hands make light work". Help make our work lighter. Help us help them.
