THE FIRST 5 THINGS TO DO IF YOUR DOG GOES MISSING!
There are 5 things you can do IMMEDIATELY to improve your chances of getting your dog back.
1) Call the SPCA, Animal Control, shelters and Vet offices local to where your dog was last seen - be ready with:
🐾You dog's name
🐾Your contact information
🐾A description of you dog including any identifying markings/apparel
🐾The exact location they were last seen
🐾What time they went missing
🐾Whether they are wearing tags/tattooed/microchipped.
🐾Quality photo of your dog that makes them easy to recognize.
2) Get missing posters printed off ASAP
🔥 HOT TIP: make a Missing Poster of your dog NOW before you need one and save it in your email for quick access during an emergency.
3) Contact friends and family to help plaster the neighborhood with your posters as soon as possible.
Put up posters EVERYWHERE: all over the neighborhood where the dog went missing, local grocery stores, local vet offices, gas stations, etc.
🔥 HOT TIP: delegate one friend/family member to post your poster to local dog groups on Facebook along with the details from step 1.
4) Contact local Missing Pets Organizations on Facebook for your area . These organizations have HUGE reach so they can share you missing pet far and wide. For folks in the lower mainland and Vancouver Island try Pet Searchers, ROAM, FLED, Missing Pets.
🔥HOT TIP: ask the same friend/family to do this as they can copy and paste the details.
5) Return to the area your dog was last seen with a familiar object that smells like home (a blanket, bed, your robe or jacket) and water in a bowl to leave there. Dogs often return to the place they took off from and will be attracted to familiar comfort
While these 5 steps help, ALWAYS, ALWAYS make sure your dog is wearing a collar with TAGS WITH YOUR UP TO DATE CONTACT INFO and get your dog MICROCHIPPED, these are the most powerful ways to ensure your finds their way home.
