Something to think about...🤔
Another great post from I wanted to permanently share.
On one note I think that scholarships can be great for folks, I have benefited from some myself. Some have been good and others not so good. But when companies are offering scholarships just to show face but not actually doing the work that's when it becomes harmful. Also not being open to feedback from their learners is huge and gets them nowhere. Do better.
This industry can be sooo rewarding and also sooo exhausting at the same time.
To up and coming trainers, if schools are financially out of reach or not align with you that's ok. There's other avenues you can take instead.
There are a lot of amazing knowledgeable people in this industry you can reach out to and learn from if they are open. Books, webinars, podcasts, shadowing, mini courses other R+ trainers have put so much work and love into creating are all available, cheaper and at times you may learn a lot more in my opinion!

In summary, I used to be upset seeing dog training and behaviour organisations, “industry leaders”, educational events and institutions, etc. uphold white supremacy culture and show complete apathy towards marginalised people and systemic oppression.
However, now I’m actually glad they are showing their true selves and being honest with little they actually care. At least that way, as marginalised people and people who care about anti-oppression, we know who we can avoid, know where our money should and shouldn’t go, and no longer be sucked in by the false promise and illusion that there will be change.
It still is disappointing of course. How are we in 2024, watching a genocide happen before our eyes, and yet folks, in a supposed “care industry”, still care more about upholding white supremacy while ignoring and perpetuating racism and other forms of oppression? How are people on one hand saying they do “trauma informed care” while at the same time perpetuating oppressive systems which cause trauma?
