Vancouver Rat Club

Vancouver Rat Club VRC is a community of rat advocates & enthusiasts in BC, Canada.

⚠️ We are not a rescue/shelter ⚠️

VRC is a community of volunteers, enthusiasts, and passionate rat advocates. We are dedicated to creating a space for appreciation, education, and camaraderie for people who have been positively impacted by these animals.

⚠️ We are not a rescue/shelter ⚠️

We occasionally volunteer at, donate to, or otherwise help shelters/rescues when resources are required but we do not currently have any rats

available for adoption, nor are we equipped to take in any surrenders. Please visit our Rescues/Shelters pages for adoption/surrender options or join our Facebook Group to browse potential private rehomes. Please note that the Facebook Group only acts as a resource for those rehoming/adopting to connect. We are not affiliated with any individuals unless specifically mentioned.

Team,
We are in urgent need of isolation cages like the one pictured below. This is our ideal isolation cage. We need upwards of 10 of these cages as mothers start having babies and others need to be separated. These cages are also on our Chewy wishlist.

If you have any of these laying around please let us know ASAP. We need them immediately.

We promise we are working through contacting those who have applied to foster - we need more hours in the day! Thank you for everything you have done for us already!!

Please follow the links to the original rescue and consider helping this rescue effort in the States! These rats will require lots of care, supplies, and vet work - donating directly or sharing the post to boost engagement can help. Thank you for caring for these poor ratties.

This is lovely!! 🐀❤️

Adoptable, adorable little girl!

ADOPTED! (Jan)
Margarat (64807285)
Female, Dumbo Rat, 1-2 Years Old

Meet Margarat!
This little cutie came to the shelter as an injured stray. Despite her injury, Margarat has been a trooper and an absolute delight. She was a social butterfly when a group of veterinary students came to meet her and she's put on the charm whenever she's had checkups at the vet. Sweet, social, and cute as a button, what more could you need? If Margarat isn't looking for treats or attention, we can often find her curled up in her favourite hammock.

VANCOUVER FRIENDS
MISSING FERRET ALERT

Have you seen Lula?

A friend saw her in the back alley between Alberni and Robson in the intersection with Broughton Street.

PLEASE reach out if you see or (hopefully) catch Lula. She’s tiny and very playful so might be tricky to capture.

Happy Holidays to every mischief and their people! In honour of new years we'd like to present the VRC end-of-year wrap up:

In 2023 the documentary Rat City, narrated by David Suzuki, was released. We were thrilled to assist this fabulous project by connecting directors with Stephanie of Eversong Woods Rattery BC to cast the perfect little movie stars! You can read more about the film & watch it here: https://ratcity.tv/?fbclid=IwAR2wlBLh9VdlmSbbtkbb9KCoiWmzDC3ufC9BFDLFUjrADSuIUo0otL3Q0OY

Other exciting news — The Rodenticide Free BC petition only needs 75 more signatures!! We'd love to reach this goal but we need your help! Let's keep striving towards a poison free BC in 2024 🥺🙏

Thank you again to the Blissful Banshees for inviting us to the Bazaar of the Afterlife alternative art market this October. 🎃💕 It was lovely to meet so many bright artists and community members and share everything cool there is to know about rats! Previous funds & the gracious donation from Blissful Banshees allowed us to distribute $630.00 between Vancouver Animal Services, Coquitlam Animal Services & Best Friend Rodent Rescue. We send our sincere gratitude to these organizations for helping us with large intakes in the past & wish them nothing but the best with all future endeavors. ❤

While we are pleased to report that all VRC rats for adoption have landed in permanent homes, we are sad to say that 2023 took some heavy losses, including that of our sweet King. Although his background was traumatic, he settled comfortably at home with VRC founders. King was able to interact with other rats on his terms, and receive frequent trips to the vet for health checks & pain management. He passed peacefully at home in the arms of his caretakers earlier this year and continues to be missed by all those he touched (and peed on) 💔

As rat-lovers will agree, processing the grief of goodbyes doesn't get any easier. In 2024 administration is taking a much deserved break and have come to an agreement that our efforts will go further by contributing to existing rescues and organizations — meaning that our intakes will likely remain closed for the foreseeable future. Note this doesn't mean we will cease Vancouver Rat Club operations entirely. Those who need to rehome or search for adoptable rats are encouraged to join our private group to browse what resources are available.

Our goals this coming year are to continue working with and offering support to rescues & the public. We'd also love to attend more events in the new year!

Thank you again for all of the support & to those who stopped by our table to chat & kiss a rat in October. 💕 Our shop is anticipated to reopen in Spring of 2024.

Happy New Year!
