What does consent mean when it comes to your dog? Teach your kids the 5 second rule whenever they want to pet a dog! Pet the dog for a max of 5 seconds then stop and disengage. Do they try to engage with you again by pawing or nudging you etc? If so, they are giving you consent to continue touching/petting them. Let the dog decide! Let it be their choice as it may just prevent a bite one day and it will also build up your dogs trust and confidence around humans! Please note I do not recommend any child petting a strange dog! Teach them to first ask permission to touch the dog, then apply the 5 second rule! Apply this rule to your own dogs in the home and see what transpires! Post your videos!
A litter of golden puppies walking nicely as you see the nice loose leashes and focus on their owners! This was a litter of goldens! Here they are about 16 weeks of age and 5th class. This was prior to covid so that is why you see no masks!
Another student showing her amazing loose leash walking skills! Ruby and her 3 1/2 Mos old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever pup walking nicely outdoors. Notice how quickly she gets her pup back beside her and reinforces her for walking nicely!! Great job Ruby! Our sessions have all been over zoom and I have noticed puppies are learning much much quicker as we can start training as early as 9 weeks of age as 2 sets of shots are not required! Training first starts in the home!
Going through old videos and found this one of my daughter Rachel Maja who was 10 yrs old at the time. This was her 1st agility competition with her Nova Scotia Duck Toller which she saved up and bought on her own! I taught agility and competed for many years and definitley miss it! This video brought me to tears as such a proud moment of her with Copper doing an amazing job with all her beautiful transitions to each obstacle. Copper would have been 18 months old I believe. I am taping it off of the tv and the vhs so grainy and my hubby in background is laughing at me for recording it on my phone Lolol!
My clients practising distraction training outdoors with their 5 month old golden retriever pup “Oliver”!! Mat work is a must to help build solid stays as well as calm behaviour ! Leah and Cole have put in the time and work resulting in an amazing pup! He doesn’t even move when the ball goes over his paws! All their sessions were over zoom!! Notice how they don’t have to say stay or repeat any cues ? The cue is mat or place and the pup learns to stay until released!
Loose leash walking 17 week old puppies!
