Following through is so important. The trainer I reblogged this from has a very important point, dogs are animals and they do not live by human standards. Structure is just important for your dog for as a young child. Be mindful you are teaching a dog to live by human rules and that is hard to do when they are not wired like us.
If you can't do the work, please don't get a dog. You are just hurting their chances to be successful.

I’ve seen precisely no one who was truly prepared to embrace the necessary emotional changes, lifestyle changes, and to do the work using the tools and methods which align with reality… who’ve either not stopped their dog’s behavior issues completely, or not made monumental progress.

That’s because if you do all that is required for your dog to change, it would be unreasonable for them not to change as well.

When you align yourself with reality and sacrifice, and dis-align yourself from excuses, laziness, and fantasy, it’s fascinating what’s possible.

PS, if you’ve found yourself saying, “But I’ve tried everything”, yet haven’t embraced the above, try saying instead, “I’ve tried everything that feels good, and nothing that doesn’t”, which will at least be honest—and might just help you find your way when and if you do become ready. Denial will guarantee you and your dog stay right where you are. I know, I’ve done both. It was never my dogs, it was always me—until it wasn’t.

Temperature and Heat Chart
Keep your dog cool and hydrated. Take breaks, stay inside if it's too hot as much as possible. Remember if you can't hold your hand on the sidewalk or pavement for at least 10 seconds it's too hot to walk on.

Meeting another dog on your walk, how to do it properly.
Dogs are social creatures and love to be social with humans and other animals, especially other dogs.
When it comes to meeting a new dog there are some key things to remember to make things a little easier on you and your dog:
1. THREE SECOND RULE: don't let your leashed dog interact with another dog for more than three seconds. This may seem weird, but the longer the interaction, the higher the potential of aggressive/dominate behaviours of the dogs.
2. LOOSEN THE LEASH: loosening the leash can ease your dogs anxiety about an interaction with another dog. Dogs have a fight and flight response just like we do, and feeling that leash tight, makes the dog feel they don't have any other option than to fight.
3. PULLING TOWARDS ANOTHER DOG: if your dog is pulling towards another dog, even excitement can turn into aggression quickly. Do NOT allow your dog to pull you towards the other dog, make sure the interaction is calm from start to finish.
4. KNOW YOUR DOGS BODY LANGUAGE: dogs can't speak words, they speak in body language. By watching your dogs body language you can not only monitor the interaction better, but you can see if the interaction is appropriate in the first place
5. ALWAYS ASK THE OTHER OWNER: make sure the other dog and owner are aware about you coming up to them, not all surprises are good surprises. Even if it's an old friend.
6. DO NOT FORCE AN INTERACTION: if your dog doesn't want part of an interaction, don't force it, speak to the other owner and make it known your dog is not interested.
7. YOU ARE YOUR DOGS ADVOCATE!!! Your dog can't speak for themselves so you have to. Dogs need your help to look out for their wellbeing.

Dogs like anyone else like their personal space, this goes for both your own and other peoples' dogs. Don't just start to touch/pet a strange dog. They could be friendly if you normally interact, but in that moment they may agitated already and act aggressively. With your own dog (or any dog) watch for signs of stress listed in order below.
Just let everyone be safe and give dogs and other animals their space.

🔴🔴SIGNS OF STRESS🔴🔴

1. Walking away
2. Hiding
3. Licking Lips
4. Yawning
5. Growl
6. Warning
7. Bite!

Dogs (or any animal) are not toys for children to play with as they please. Dogs are living beings with their own thoughts and feelings and need for safety and space. For many dogs, ears can be a sensitive area, and they hurt when pulled on, also putting your arms or hands around their neck (ex. Hugging) can be extremely stressful and make the dog feel trapped and threatened.

🔻
‼️The signs to leave your dog alone start with a lot of lip licking, yawning, backing away, trying to escape the situation, walking away to a safe place, hiding, growling, nipping, and the last stage is biting. Be careful and know the signs‼️

RAISING DOG FRIENDLY CHILDREN
Teach children to be dog friendly before teaching dogs to be child friendly

I’m often asked - “How can I make my dog more child friendly?”

The question really should be - “How can I make my child more dog friendly?”

Children don’t come with an inborn ability to know how to treat dogs. It’s up to us to teach them.

I’m amazed that there aren’t more dog bites considering how often I see children treating dogs like stuffed toys.

If you think about it, dogs are actually amazingly tolerant and patient with people even when their attempts to communicate through their body language, that they’re really uncomfortable, are completely ignored or not understood.

As parents, it’s an important responsibility to teach our children about how to respect and behave around dogs.

Always supervise children and dogs, even if a dog seems relaxed and friendly.
