Congratulations Chelsea! 🍾💍 This bridal bouquet took a little help from my friends! Check out these beautiful deep burgundy tulips grown by Anna @petersonfarmsnorth! So perfect for this color palette. Alliums, rose foliage, columbine and clematis from Kim Herdman’s fabulous garden. (It’s like being a kid in a candy shop at her place). Thank you!

Kind of obsessed. Might be a favourite this year. Couldn’t help but use Sinead for my music. RIP to a true badass.

During Oliver Nerger’s great talk on composting at the garden club meeting last week there were some questions and comments regarding composting during winter. I checked on my pile today and wanted to share that our pile doesn’t ever really freeze. We keep the top covered with a tarp just to keep the crows from making a mess and picking through it. The first layer on top was pretty frozen, but I didn’t have to dig very deep to find a warm layer and just below that were our worm friends. 🙂. As long as your pile is working and composting it will generate enough heat to keep from freezing. It’s been -20 this week but the worms are still doing their thing. I’m sure they didn’t appreciate me stirring them up but I did bury them again and mixed some of the new food waste down for them. It’s important to keep adding air and water down into the more compacted layers below. I’m excited for the great compost I’ll have to add to my gardens this spring! (Yes I’ve now reached the stage in life where compost really excites me 😝)

I attended the first executive meeting of the year for the Williams Lake garden club yesterday. Lots of fun things planned for 2023! First meeting is February 2 @ 6:30 at the Seniors Activity Centre, beside the Rec centre. There will be a presentation by Dave Rempel on growing vegetables from seed. Drop in fee is $5, yearly membership is $20, $30 for household. Membership includes discounts at a few nurseries and garden centres. There will also be a seed swap table at the first meeting! This is a great way to score some tried and true varieties of seed grown by other cariboo gardeners. I will have some interesting varieties to share. 😉
Should I bring some of this gorgeous penstemon variety? Deer resistant, bee friendly and perennial! Everyone needs some penstemon in their life!
Hope you see you there!

Missing the flowers on this frosty morning. 😕. But I am spending the cold nights planning for next year. What should I grow next season? 🤔. My list is always endless!
Sharing some pics and video today in my stories and IG of my favourite grasses! They are looking so beautiful in the sunshine today!!! I am so thankful for this little extra stretch of good weather, I love it when I get the chance to actually enjoy some of the plants that really shine in autumn. I’ve been a little quiet around here but I promise we’ve got some fun things in the works and the stand WILL have some pretties for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend! 😃🎃🌻
Stay tuned!

Maybe not the typical spring bird but the pelicans are a sure sign the weather is warming up!
