Hey folks,
A situation has come to my attention that requires some action. Our local municipality has started considering a bylaw that will ban almost all exotic pets. This could include every thing from your little bearded dragon, to tarantulas, large cats, little monkeys, birds of prey and on and on the list goes. Now I realize that a good portion of people do not like or find affection for the many weird critters we enjoy. I believe we have an obligation to write sound laws that respect our differences but still address any real safety concerns around these animals. I am ok with bylaws that restrict the possession of realistically dangerous animals to people with the experience and ability to properly house and take care of them. However I do not feel a ban on keeping such animals will be effective. Those who are responsible keepers will just go hide there passion, but not give it up. The very type of people who should not have dangerous animals are not the type to obey bylaws to begin with, so all we do is create an underground. We force the people that truly care for these animals to hide like criminals and accomplish nothing in actually stopping the keeping of such animals by those who should not have them. I believe there is support out there for reasonable bylaws concerning exotic animals. Lets us properly regulate such activities instead of just make more useless laws that address nothing. So a show of support give it a like if you agree with reasonable regulation instead of outright bans........I mean come on folks, who doesn't prefer finding a wallaby in there tree instead of a cat crapping in the flower beds and sand boxes.
