Only Day 2 and we have 40 submissions already.
Incredible!!
Thank you all for starting off this year's contest with so much energy.
New this year, the first 20 submissions battled it out for their chance to win first dibs on a calendar feature month.
We had 20 submissions sent in by 12pm today.
The remaining submissions will continue the contest as normal.
Cory created a scent search (Wintergreen) and Mya helped pick our first featured winner!!
Note: The video doesn’t show it but we were waiting in the house in the living room while Cory built the course. We came from the other side of the shed so you could see us better. There was no peaking … we paw’mise.
(I am incredibly proud of Mya as she has no formal search skills - we just mess around for fun with no real rules after I get home from classes - and I wasn’t sure how she would do in the yard with kids calling & heckling her on top of all that, a typical windy day. Outside is a scary place for her on a good day so I thought for sure she would just walk off the course and say forget this lady🤣).
The winner is …
Congrats!!!

Join us tomorrow on zoom to discuss why Door Manners are really important … and NOT because we are their masters!!
Door Manners teach calmness, confidence and social etiquette vs bully, intimidating and other dangerous behaviours (hit by car running in the street, jumping out of a car and attacking a dog).
Door etiquette is the foundation to all good things!
Mya demonstrates going through a gate at a SniffSpot adventure while a neighbouring dog was lunging, and barking at her at the adjacent fence. Her calmness helped calm the other dog, and prevented her from joining in on his chaos.
Door etiquette is life saving, and does not need to be taught with any aversive.
Tomorrow we are discussing the book Feeling Outnumbered by Patricia B. McConnell at 10am Central and this will be the highlight of the conversation among other important discussion topics from the book.
It is $10 to join if you are not a Wag It Games Member or Book Club Member and all proceeds will be shared between the Oromocto SPCA in NB and Rescue Siamese in MB.
The call is approximately 60-90 minutes.
You can register on the website or send me a message.

Hope was recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and she now gets medication in the am and pm. I taught her to go into her little house on command so she could enjoy her ‘goodie’ alone. Took only a few days to teach her, and now she runs in on her own excited for her medication. Hope was also born with Hydrocephalus, so it takes her a little longer to learn new things. She certainly likes this new trick! #KinderCanineCoaching #LearnThroughPlay #Hydrocephalus #Hyperthyroidism #SeniorCat #CatsAreSuperSmart #AnnualWellnessChecksAreSoImportant #FearFreeMedicationSuccess

Did you know that dogs carry their stress in their paws and coccyx area of their body; whereas we carry ours in the neck, shoulders and back. I wanted to help Molly release some stress from her body the day before her euthanasia. September 13th, we spent the whole day pampering and loving Molly the way she enjoyed it best. I’m pretty sure we succeeded in making her feel like bliss before crossing over. I miss her touch, I miss her calmness and silliness but most of all I miss her presence. Molly’s love was simply one of a kind. #KinderCanineCoaching #PetLossAndGrief #SeniorDogLoss #MyastheniaGravisWarrior #MegaesophagusWarrior #SpondylosisWarrior #MyHero #BestFriendsForever #StressRelease #Massage

🐾 Sunday Senior Sessions with Mya 🐾
I haz a VERY important session to talk about today!!
Now that the weather is super duper nice outside, I am seeing more and more dogs outside having fun. I LOVE that.
Today I witnessed a little puppy, no more than 10 weeks old out for a run with their human.
Being out and about is great, but the puppy was struggling to keep up to their owner, all while being pulled by the neck (wearing a collar).
A harness would be better physically but emotionally would still be struggling to enjoy the outing as much as their human was.
I think it is FABULOUS to be out enjoying your time together … but there are some safety methods I would love to share with you while you enjoy your activities together.
🐾 Puppies are still developing their body structures, so be super careful to exercise them appropriately to their size and growth.
Stop and observe their behaviour often during your activities to ensure they are still having fun, and able to keep up alongside you.
Puppies and new to you dogs specifically; make sure to let them stop and sniff/observe their neighbourhood once in awhile. This is the best way for them to learn where they are, increase trust and awareness of their surroundings in the event they ever ran away.
🐾 For all ages, a harness is better to use when running, skating, biking, jogging or any other ‘fast’ motion activities (even better for all casual walks as well - but that is another topic for another day). This allows any tension that may occur to be evenly distributed ... although the goal is no pulling tension for either ends of the leash!
Imagine being rear ended constantly every time you stopped your car on just one outing to get groceries. It would be painful during and a few days later as your bodies heals from the whiplash and gravity tension. This is what it can feel like when wearing a collar even with just a small tension applied.
Finding the right harness to fit your pet can be trick
Beautiful weather makes humans want to move and become non stop .. and this carries on to us.
Don’t forget that rest is so important, if not the most important part of our day!
Dogs specifically require up to 18 hours of REAL rest every day.
Rest meaning we don’t respond to noises, movement or change in our environment. We fully commit to sleeping.
Dogs are always wanting to please, so even though we need rest .. we will be ready at the call.
Humans often confuse that response with an abundance of energy that needs to be expelled; and for some dogs it can be, but that doesn’t negate the mind and bodies need for rest.
Is your dog lacking motivation, easily over stimulated and over aroused, often putting on the brakes when out, reactive or aggressive ???
Your dog isn’t bad, dominating, or being stubborn (insert any word you call your dog when they communicate the opposite of what you expected) …
Your dog is most likely:
Fearful
In pain
Doesn’t trust the situation
Or … just simply tired and needs a break!!
After every meal and any activity, your dog should rest for at the very least for an hour before their next activity. This helps with healthy digestion, healthy gut activity and most of all balances the brain chemistry. It also allows their muscles to rest and their brain to work at its full capacity, limiting aches and pains that can attribute to reactivity or over arousal.
Be kind and encourage rest without feeling bad about it … because in fact, it really is important for your pets health.
Yes, this also goes for your powerful & energetic breeds. The length of activity is going to be breed and pet dependent … but every ‘body’ NEEDS proper rest!
I enjoyed a wonderful romp in Assiniboine Park this morning and now I am back home to … rest!
