Our Fabulous Foster Feature of October is Tahl!
Tahl and her husband own a livestock sanctuary and have been fostering for various rescues for more than 8 years. They joined WHS just over a year ago, following a foster call out made for an especially difficult mom and pup case. Tahl fosters whelping or pregnant moms, as well as bottle baby pups until they are 8 weeks old, which is a large task that many are not up for.

Her most recent foster was a mom named Bonnie and her 6 pups. Bonnie came in to us very nervous, emaciated, and shut down, but Tahl took her home and was able to give this family the care they needed to flourish and grow. Bonnie and all of her pups are now living their best lives with their forever families.

So many dogs and puppies have gotten their second chance at life from everything Tahl and her husband do. Thank you, Tahl, for being fabulous! 💜🧡

We're looking to clear out our rooms and find our shelter animals homes! To reduce barriers, we're hosting a 'Name your Adoption Fee' event THIS FRIDAY, where you can come and pick up Freyja here ^ (or any of her pals) for a special price.

A few things we want you to consider:
- Price has little effect on adoption success. Studies have shown that low-fee or no-fee adoptions are just as successful as standard ones (check out the blog below for the research!).

- Adoptions typically range from $40-$899, but the value in adopting from a rescue is HUGE (think health exams, spays & neuters, vaccines, a support system of counselors - the list goes on).

- Adopting a bestie into your family will come with costs down the road! We break down averages in our blog, and want you to weigh the ongoing cost of pet ownership before adopting 🧡.

Saturday was wild - in only 2 hours we found foster homes for 17 animals, helped finalize one adoption (we ran out of foster cats and she was ready to commit!), and signed up 20 new foster families.

Bill C-355, to stop the live exportation of horses for slaughter, is currently being stalled in the Senate - we need your voice more than ever.

"Between May 2023 and June 2024 alone, at least 21 horses shipped from Canada died during transport to Japan or in the hours and days after landing. More than 50 more animals sustained injuries and illnesses. Horses exported for slaughter are dying prolonged and painful deaths caused by dehydration, severe injuries sustained by falling on the flights, and even agonizing miscarriages."

🥔 We're so happy for this little potato and his fam.

"Just wanted to give a little update on Spud (formerly Marty) who we adopted in August. He's adjusted beautifully! He loves all three dogs but Martini the we**ie (pictured in 2) is his favourite!

He drinks from the dog dish with the dogs despite having his own food and water dishes in his room, he’s been learning about his crate and car rides with few complaints, and loves training with chicken! He currently does a nice sit and placement/target cue. We're working on building muscle for a sit pretty, and spin and twist for mobility. He's such a sweet spunky boy!
