Many of the families displaced by the wildfires this summer were forced to leave home with barely anything for themselves, never mind the pets they had in tow.

Thanks in part to the Petfinder Foundation 2025 Disaster Grant, we were able to provide shelter to the animals that needed it most, along with essential supplies for families temporarily relocated to the city. From food and litter to crates and comfort toys, each item helped ease the burden.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” Valerie, an evacuee from Bakers Narrows told the Winnipeg Free Press. “People don’t realize how expensive it is being out of your home, let alone feeding kids and feeding cats. The stress that has been on our pets alone has been crazy, so being able to have litter and food for them is awesome.”
