Yesterday was an incredibly emotional day. A very scary day.

Nacho was at his potential adopters for their first overnight stay. While out to p*e - men approached excitedly not listening to Marla's verbal warning or the signs that Nacho was in distress (men being a trigger). Marla scooped Nacho up, but as the men approached he freaked out of fear-- Somehow unhooked his leash from his collar and bit Marla badly in her attempt to protect him.

‼️ IF we can all learn a lesson here- it is that, we don't know a dogs past trauma. Please ask owners before approaching. Listen to them, as well, read the visual signs a dog gives off. ‼️

This lead to Nacho running away in Fredericton during rush hour. - To say Marla, Chantal and I were panicked is an understatement. I can say, it was one of the scariest few hours of my life.

Luckily I was still in Fredericton - since Nacho would only come to me since he is afraid of strangers - And was surrounded by a group of girlfriends who saw me at me worst and did everything they could to help! Beth created a post in a Fredericton group... leads came in and we followed. A woman named Pam, her son and brother Anthony were beyond amazing .... complete strangers coming out to help. I can never thank them enough. Anthony was on his bike, followed the leads, spotted him and followed while calling me and leading us right on Nacho's trail. We ran through backyards with people on their decks pointing us in the right directions... finally.. I found him in the woods behind a subdivision.

He is safe. I am overwhelmed by the compassion, support and care I got from those close to me and complete strangers. THANK YOU ALL. 🙏🏻🖤

Marla does need to be checked out, but is fine otherwise. Chantal and I had an emotional rollercoaster ride, but we are fine too. Nacho slept the whole ride home and I had given him a medicated bath incase of wounds.. which I did find one on his paw and we are on our way to the vet for an official check-up.
*Update- Nachos paw is sore, but clean bill of health otherwise.*

Chantal, Marla and I all agree - there are too many strangers for a condo/apartment type living.. and city life.

💙🐶 NACHO PROGRESS UPDATE

When I originally brought Nacho home, I noticed he was terrified of men.

Dad- even though we lived in the same house, Nacho could be sitting on the couch cuddled with dad, but if he got up and went to another room then came back out, Nacho’s ears would pin back, eyes bulge, growl and lunge/snap.

Walking- if passing men on a walk, he’d cower, growl, shake. I found him more confident walking past men if walking with Guacamole, but still scared.

Chantal (our goddess of a foster mom) has been working hard and here is a little video to show it!

This is part of the reason we’ve chosen a female as a lead for potential forever home. Nacho is much more comfortable with females.

Around a week ago we I reached back out to Marla- who had inquired about Nacho a few weeks prior. Her living circumstances and energy stood out! With no children at home or other pets and the fact she will be fully retired at the end of May… I just have this overwhelming feeling that Momma Mar and Nacho can be each others world! ♥️

Her previous dog who recently passed over the rainbow bridge, Dexter, was a rescue who also had aggression issues. - we’re truly sorry for your loss 🌈🐶

Not only is her living circumstances and experience ideal, but she also comes highly recommended by the Oromocto SPCA. Not to mention… her loving presence is one that truly touched me. I know Nacho would be loved unconditionally 💕

We’ve had a couple visits, including a home visit. One of Nacho’s triggers is strangers, so this is a slow “dating” type process to fully make any transition. We look forward to more visits and keeping everyone posted on the progress!

We want to thank everyone for their continued support as well as those who have filled out the adoption form!! 🙏🏻 Thank you!! Should any of us (mom, foster mom, potential forever mom, or Nacho) thinks we should move on, we will be in contact!

For now, we’ve got a good feeling about this one.

🤍🖤 Nachos foster-mom has gone away for a few days.. I did try and see if Nacho would get along with Guacamole, unfortunately he just attacked him.

Mom + Dad have been watching Guac while I have Nacho. It’s reaffirming that he will THRIVE in a home as an only dog. He is SO GOOD. SO SWEET. SO LOVING. A totally different dog alone vs with other animals.

He spooned all night long!! I didn’t set an alarm cause he usually was up at 7:30-8AM but I woke up and the clock read 9:30AM and he was still snoozing!!

We went for a walk, met a lovely couple and their dog along the way!! Their hearts were so big - it was an honour to meet them!! We stopped to see one of his biggest supporters and adoptive grandma, Sharon!

After our walk we visited Ms Sherry from Sherry's Canine Clips to get his nails clipped. He was not a fan… however, Sherry is beyond kind and patient and got the job done… then got some Nacho snuggles after.

We had an ice cream … which he LOVED. I on the other hand shouldn’t have 🤣 lactose intolerant which isn’t bad… but ice cream will do it. He then cuddled on the couch watching Netflix!

We just finished playing fetch in the backyard!

He’s going to be the BEST companion for someone truly special!

Yesterday was a BIG day for Nacho! We met with the incredible Theresa of the River Valley Sun to do a piece on our handsome man to help us reach MORE people to find him his perfect forever home! Thank you Theresa 🙏🏻

While I was there a delivery man came to the house, Chantal quickly scooped him up as strangers are a trigger for him… however… Chantal and I, in pure shock, watched him stay incredibly calm and not make a p*ep. 🎉 GOOD JOB NACHO!

Then, of course, he was smotherd in hugs and kisses from his moms for doing such a good job. ♥️

👋🏼 Hello!!

We are Ashley + Chantal, Nacho’s mom and foster mom!

We have to admit that this is one of the most heartbreaking situations to be in as we both love Nacho so dearly and fiercely! Unfortunately for me, when I adopted Nacho from the shelter, I was told he was good with other dogs and cats - however, we soon found out that living in a home with other animals vs the interaction with them at a shelter is totally different. He attacked his fur-brother, Guacamole, my Frenchie (who couldn’t defend himself) numerous times throughout the day.

We tried medications (falling under the 1%) Nacho had bad reactions making him more aggressive. We had a dog trainer come to the house as well as, invested in a behavioural therapist, however, the Nacho + Guacamole combo was still not right.

This goddess of a human has 2 rescues of her own. Her one rescue, Hope (a lab-wiener mix) with high energy and more his size has been the perfect match for fur-sibling companionship and wearing off energy. He likes to test his boundaries with his older Forster fur-sibling, Roxy, a 5 yr old boxer who does not have teeth and can safely put him in his place.

Her home has been a place where she has been able to work on issues a little at a time, but his issues are those that will take constant work and a long period of time to overcome, if he can overcome things 100%.

Now that he has been in a space where we can properly see and assess his needs, we are on the hunt for his fur-ever home!
