A Letter to the Purebred Breeder Who Doesn’t Believe in My Goldendoodles
(from one breeder’s heart to another)

Dear Purebred Breeder,

I want to start by saying this:
I respect you.
I respect the history, the preservation, the structure, the predictability, the decades of dedication behind the dogs you love.

We may walk different paths in the dog world,
but we both care deeply about producing puppies with intention, responsibility, and devotion.

You breed for preservation.

I breed for purpose.

And I want to share what that means from my heart not to argue or convince you, but simply so you can understand the “why” behind what I do.

Because I know some of you look at Goldendoodles and see “mixed.”
“Designer.”
“Not pure.”
“Mutts.”
“Not predictable.”
“Not real.”

But if you looked through my eyes, even for a moment…
you’d see something much different.

• I Don’t Raise Goldendoodles to Replace Purebreds I Raise Them to Fill a Need

Not every family wants a show dog.
Not every family needs a working dog.
Not every home is built for high drive or heavy structure.

Not every owner is prepared to handle a dog bred for specific historical tasks.

But every family deserves a dog that brings comfort, stability, loyalty, and companionship.

That’s where my purpose begins.

My Goldendoodles may not have a breed club behind them,
but they have purpose behind every generation.

Purpose behind every pairing.
Purpose behind every hour I spend raising these babies from womb to home.

They are therapy-leaning companion dogs, intentionally created from two incredible breeds with traits that beautifully complement one another.

Not accidental.
Not sloppy.
Not random.
Intentional.

• I Know What I Breed and More Importantly, Why

I’m not confused about what a Goldendoodle is.

I don’t consider them “purebred.”

But I know they are pure in all the ways that matter to the families who take them home:

Pure joy.
Pure gentleness.
Pure emotional intelligence.
Pure willingness to please.
Pure connection.

I’ve seen them transform children’s lives.

I’ve watched them become emotional anchors during hard seasons.

I’ve seen them soften grief, anxiety, loneliness, and fear.

I’ve watched marriages heal, kids open up, and families reconnect all because of a puppy that wasn’t bred for rings or ribbons, but for something softer…
something human.

That is the purpose behind my program.

• I Raise My Puppies With the Same Level of Care You Do Just With a Different Goal

Like you, I health test.

Like you, I plan generations ahead.

Like you, I study structure, coat genetics, temperament, and lines.

Like you, I make decisions with responsibility, not convenience.

Like you, I cry when things go wrong, and celebrate when things go right.

I pour myself into these puppies:
the curriculum, the early exposure, the desensitizing, the shaping, the hours spent cleaning, bottle-feeding, monitoring, grooming, evaluating.

I don’t cut corners.
I don’t breed every heat.
I don’t breed for “rare colors.”
I breed for temperament first, always.

You may not believe in my mixes
but I hope you can see the heart and commitment behind how they’re raised.

• We’re Not Opponents We’re Just Serving Different Families

Purebred breeders serve families who want history, tradition, stability, and function.

I serve families who want gentleness, softness, intuition, and companionship.

And there is room in the world and in the dog community for both.

Your work matters.
My work matters.
Our goals are simply different.

But our hearts?
They’re not so different at all.

We both love our dogs beyond words.
We both lose sleep over puppies.
We both sacrifice.
We both care more than most people will ever understand.

And if you could see the families my Goldendoodles heal…
if you could see the impact they make…
if you could see the love they give…

You might not ever choose to breed them
but you would understand why I do.

With respect,

and with so much heart,
Holly

Aww, our sweet Rosie! (was Posie) 🩷 Her Guardian Momma took her for her first big girl groom and Christmas photo!🎄 How sweet is she?! 😍 Rosie is a fully registered standard poodle who we hope will be a future Momma for our program. Rosie will help us produce some F1 Goldendoodles, which we are super excited for! 👏🐾🩷

With colder temperatures creeping up on us, we need to be extra cautious with outdoor time. 🐾🥶

🐾 Every breeder knows this moment, the little buzz on your phone a few days after a puppy goes to their new family.

The message always starts sweetly:

“We absolutely adore him, but…”

And right then, your heart gives that familiar little ache.
Because you already know what’s coming.
He barks.
He nips.
He cries at night.
He’s just “a lot.”

But what they’re describing isn’t a flaw.

It’s just… a puppy.

A tiny soul who has left his mum, his littermates, and everything familiar, and is now trying to make sense of a whole new world. Of course he’s unsure. Of course he’s excitable. Of course he stumbles as he learns. That’s not misbehaviour. That’s babyhood.

As breeders, we try our very best to prepare new owners for this stage.
We explain the puppy phase, the developmental leaps, the normal hiccups.
We talk about patience, boundaries, structure, and love.
And we strongly encourage training with a licensed facility, because guidance from professionals builds confidence in both the puppy and the family.

We know firsthand that a well-rounded dog doesn’t simply “happen.”
They’re shaped, with time, consistency, teaching, and teamwork.

But some people still imagine the puppy they see online: calm at eight weeks, never chewing a shoe, somehow understanding every cue instantly.

They forget that behind every beautifully trained adult dog is someone who put in the effort—
the late nights,
the repetition,
the gentle corrections,
the celebrating of tiny wins,
the commitment to keep showing up.

So when we hear, “He’s lovely, but I don’t think we’re the right fit,”

So often what they mean is: I wanted the love without the learning curve.

Even the most thoughtfully raised puppies aren’t pre-programmed. They come with wide-open hearts and sponge-like minds, eager to learn your routines, your voice, your energy. They don’t need perfection, they need calm guidance, structure, and time to grow.

Some people think an “easy” puppy is a “good” puppy.
But the truth is: every puppy is good.
They’re just new.
And new things take effort to shape.

Before they’re confident, they’re clumsy.
Before they’re calm, they’re curious.
Before they’re well-rounded, they’re wonderfully messy.

As breeders, we witness it all.
And when puppies come back confused and afraid, wondering why their little world changed again, we hold them close and whisper, “You did nothing wrong, sweetheart.”

Because it’s never their fault when someone wasn’t ready for the work that turns a baby dog into a brilliant companion.

Raising a puppy isn’t instant.
It’s sleepless nights, a few puddles, zoomies during dinner, and tiny teeth trying to understand boundaries.

But it’s also the start of something extraordinary—the trust, the loyalty, and the deep bond that lasts a lifetime.
And that bond grows because someone puts in the time, the training, and the heart.

A puppy isn’t a trial run or a temporary phase.
It’s a commitment.
A promise.
A piece of your heart on four little paws.

If you’re not ready for the messy, magical work of puppyhood, that’s okay, truly. Just wait until you can give your whole heart and the consistent effort they deserve.

Because these little souls depend on us.
And they deserve nothing less.

Stolen from another breeder. As I get ready to have puppies again, this is such a good reminder.

Mabel & Goose have honeymooned! 💞 🤭 We are hopeful for another sweet litter of medium Goldendoodles due mid January. This will be bitter sweet as it is Mabel's retirement litter. 🥹🩷 Mabel has been the most patient, loving and nurturing Momma to her previous 3 litters. We are truly honored to have her in our breeding program. 🥰 Their last litter was just awesome! Super human focused, no shyness, loved to be held and were eager to please! Often times we have our litters all spoken for before breeding even takes place, however, as of right now, it looks like we may have a few spots available! If you've been hoping for a Mabel puppy, now is the time! Please send me a private message if interested. 🐶🩷🩵

Unfortunately this will be our last litter for quite some time.🥺 We have a few girlies in our program that will hopefully be Mommas one day if health testing is passed but they are all still pups. We will be a minimum of a year before we have more puppies in our home. ❤️

Some things are just worth the investment. We are talking about living beings, our furry best friends who will hopefully enrich our lives for 10-15 years. There is often very good reasons why ethical breeders charge more. We put in the work. It starts with careful selection of breeding Mama's and Papa's for our program based on temperment and health testing on their parents. Then, we do our own health testing on those puppies. An ethical breeder will almost always have potential breeding dogs that have had to be cut from their program due to failed testing. It just happens. That's responsible breeding. Is it costly and heart wrenching? Oh boy you bet, but can I lay my head down at night knowing I did the right thing..Yes! Then there is the puppy curriculum. Well, unfortunately not all breeders have one. That doesn't mean that their pups are not cared for, it just means that the pups are not being challenged. Physical and mental stimulation along with safe socialization is soooo important for your puppies first 8 weeks! Introductions to crates and potty trays(outside potties weather permitting) loud sound experiences, daily pictures and videos sent to the families, handling of every puppy on a daily basis, and the list goes on and on. That is a lot of time and love invested by your breeder. They are doing it for the benefit of their puppies and their new families. Please do your research before bringing home your new fur baby. A great breeder will always love to chat about their program and will beam with pride when speaking about theirs. Those breeders are are worth it..Worth the investment. Let's raise the bar, and expect more! 👏🐶❤️

Well said my friend! 👏 I too have turned folks down from taking litter mates. It's just not a great idea as there is too much risk for issues down the road. Having a buddy for your furkid is not a bad idea, however give that first pup time to bond with you, work on training, socializing, etc then down the road..Sure! 🐶❤️🐶
