Joy ist eine sehr liebe, umgängliche Hündin mit grossem Interesse an Schafen, sie ist bereit die Ausbildung am Vieh zu beginnen. Ihr Vorbesitzer fand leider den Draht zu ihr nicht (auch aus Zeitmangel), daher sucht sie ihren Lebensplatz mit ausreichend Beschäftigung, nur mit Familienanschluss. Thoughts from the barn..

I like a dog that is a hard charger.. they suit my style. Do those win dog trials? Not always. Coming from the west the sheep we worked needed a more forward type of dog.. not huge open flanks, not a strong eye… and definitely not a windshield wiper type. They needed push.. they needed grit and heart in a dog.. those types of dogs tickle my fancy. When I bought Gun as a youngster I saw all these things in him, knowing I don’t live in the West anymore I knew he probably wasn’t going to be the most suitable dog for light hair sheep in the east.. I didn’t care. He’s the style of dog I like, yes he can be excitable, when things go awry.. that will settle with work and age. Most days I set Gun up for failure.. I work different sheep in different fields.. sheep you want to shoot. Sheep, I know Gun is uncomfortable on because they excite him. He’s a bump and grind type who loves when heavy sheep sit back on him, that’s his wheelhouse. I try and prepare him for the worst case scenario, and each time the sheep really are terrible, he has to learn to be business like. If they sheep are excited he has to tone it down.. that’s a work in progress. He’s not a gripper, he just gets excited, which means he’d blow a stop if he feels things are out of control. I know when things are out of control and ask him to stop anyway.. I’m simply just slowing down his mind. Will this particular style win the dog trials on light sheep? Maybe not, but he will certainly be there on Sunday if asked to shove 20 sheep around. That’s my kind of dog. He has flaws, but his good work ethic, style of forward, and heart make up for them. Frankly he’s pretty damn nice..

My goal is to trial him as life and money allow… my goal isn’t to win every trial we go to.. I’ve won dog trials, I’ve traveled the country.. things are different for me now.

At the end of the day he’s the dog to pull out when lambing, when rescuing and when ranching. He works for a living, he’s not an ordinary trial dog. If he can do both, that’s the icing on the cake!

I enjoy every single thing about him, even when he’s bad he makes me smile.
