A little Sunday info: Did you know that Dobermanns were first bred in the 1880s by Karl Dobermann, a tax collector who ran a dog pound in Apolda, Germany. It is the only breed to be named after a person. There are 2 types of Dobermanns: working or show lines. They are a very affectionate breed that will do anything for their person.
Dobermanns are a high-energy dog that need a lot of mental stimulation to keep them happy. It's a great breed for sporty people who are not first-time dog owners.

Research shows many dogs now recognize human emotions, follow social cues, and even outperform primates in certain communicative tasks. In cities, stray dogs have been seen using zebra crossings and riding public transport, suggesting rapid cognitive shifts. These changes, along with genetic differences from wolves, point to a new chapter in canine evolution, one driven largely by their unique bond with humans.

Here's a fun little fact about our furry pals: while dogs can devour just about anything, there are certain foods that can turn them from happy pups into not-so-happy campers! 🚫🍫

Take grapes, for instance. You might think they're a healthy snack, but they're actually a big no-no for dogs. Just a handful can lead to kidney failure! 😱 And don’t get me started on chocolate—because, let’s be real, if dogs could have a sweet tooth, chocolate would be their first choice! 🍫 But it’s a serious danger.

Xylitol, often found in sugar-free gum and some peanut butter, is another sneaky ingredient that can wreak havoc on a dog’s health. It drops their blood sugar and can lead to liver failure! Yikes!

If your dog's foot is tender, inflamed, or he's limping, please check for foxtails. I have had dogs that have had these lodged in their skin and get infections. Go to the vet, have an XRAY done!

Please do not let your dog wander through fields where foxtails and other barbed grass seeds are present.

The grass seeds contained in the head of these plants are designed by nature to burrow into the ground. Unfortunately, these grass seeds can and do burrow into your dog's skin and open body orifices and then continue to burrow causing a lot of potential trauma in your dog's body.

The x-ray on the left is of a foxtail tract that was injected with contrast medium to show just how far a foxtail can travel.

The lesion between the toes of the foot on the bottom right is how these tracts will look to the naked eye. This is a great example of just how far foxtails can migrate in tissues.
