Attention Paphos cat owners!

As you may have heard, there has been a recent outbreak of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) in Cyprus. FIP is a serious and often fatal disease caused by a coronavirus that affects cats. At PaphosVets Animal Hospital, we prioritize the health and safety of our furry friends, and we want to keep you informed about this concerning situation.

What is FIP?

FIP is a complex disease that can be difficult to diagnose. It is caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus, which is a common virus that most cats are exposed to at some point in their lives. However, only some of the cats who are infected with the coronavirus will develop FIP.

⚠️ Signs of FIP

The signs of FIP can vary depending on the form of the disease. However, some common signs include:

◾️ Weight loss
◾️ Lethargy
◾️ Fever
◾️ Inappetence
◾️ Imbalance
◾️ Vomiting
◾️ Diarrhea
◾️ Swollen abdomen
◾️ Eye problems

How to protect your cat

There is no way to completely protect your cat from FIP. However, there are some things you can do to reduce your cat's risk of developing the disease:

✅ Avoid contact with other cats who are sick.
✅ Wash your hands thoroughly after handling cats.
✅ Isolate any cats who are showing signs of illness.
✅ Neutering to avoid cat fights

If you are concerned that your cat may have FIP, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

We are here to help you and your cat through this difficult time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Learn how to keep your pets safe from fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes during the summer months. Here are some essential tips to keep a note of:

Understanding the Risks:
Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes pose risks to pets, including the transmission of diseases were in some cases can be life-threatening.

Effective Preventive Treatments:
Use veterinarian-recommended preventive treatments, such as collars, spot-on treatments, tablets and sprays, to protect your pets.

Regular Grooming Practices:
Regularly visiting your groomer will help spot signs of infestation or bites and remove any pests.

Environmental Control Measures:
Maintain a well-groomed yard, trim grass, and eliminate standing water in your pet's surroundings to reduce the risk of fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes in your pet's environment.

Awareness of High-Risk Areas:

🐾Attention all pet owners!🐾

It's important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of dog poisoning to ensure the safety and health of your furry friend. Here are some common indicators to look out for:

🚨Vomiting and/or diarrhea
🚨Loss of appetite
🚨Excessive drooling
🚨Lethargy and weakness
🚨Seizures
🚨Difficulty breathing

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, seek veterinary attention immediately. Remember to keep potentially toxic substances out of reach and ensure that your dog doesn't eat anything suspicious on walks. Additionally, to be extra safe, it’s a good idea to purchase a poisoning kit from your vet in case of an emergency to help combat any potential toxin ingestion.

At PaphosVets Animal Hospital, we're here to keep your pets happy and healthy. Contact us if you have any concerns about your pet's health. 👇

🐾🌞Attention all pet parents!🌞🐾

As the temperatures rise, it's important to make sure your furry friends are ready for the warmer months! Here are a few tips from the PaphosVets Animal Hospital team to help keep your pets happy and healthy this season:

🌡️ Keep them cool: Make sure your pets have access to shade and plenty of water to stay hydrated. Avoid leaving them in hot cars, and consider investing in a cooling pad or misting fan to keep them comfortable.

🌳 Watch out for ticks and fleas: Warmer weather means more outdoor activities for you and your pets, but it also means an increased risk of tick and flea infestations. Be sure to check your pets regularly for any signs of these pesky critters, and talk to our team about preventative measures.

🐶 Exercise safely: While exercise is important for your pets year-round, it's important to take extra precautions in the heat. Avoid exercising during the hottest parts of the day, and be mindful of your pet's energy levels and any signs of overheating.

🌺 Allergies: Just like humans, pets can suffer from seasonal allergies too. Keep an eye out for any signs of itchiness, sneezing or other allergic reactions, and talk to our team about possible treatments.

We're here to help you keep your furry friends healthy and happy all year long. Contact us to schedule a check-up or to discuss any concerns you may have about your pet's health this season.

🌸🌷 Spring is finally here, and while the warmer weather and blooming flowers are a welcome sight, they also bring along unwelcome guests like Ticks & Fleas.

Here are some useful tips to help you protect your furry friends from these pesky and sometimes even dangerous parasites: 👇
1️⃣ Use a tick and flea collar/spot on/ tablet/spray as recommended by your vet to keep your pet protected all year round.

2️⃣ Keep your pet's surroundings clean and tidy, and wash their bedding regularly to prevent infestations.

3️⃣ Consider using a tick and flea comb to remove any stragglers, and dispose of them safely.

4️⃣ Regular visits to the groomer during the warmer months will help spot and manage any ticks and fleas

With these simple tips, you can keep your furry friend safe from ticks and fleas this spring.
If you have any questions or concerns, pop by our Peyia branch any day from 09:00 to 16:30 for a friendly chat with our nurse who’s there to help you manage these pesky pests with a wide range of options available.🌻🐶
