🇬🇧Snakes are not stupid, and here is the perfect proof of that💁♀️ Juvenile female of scaleless cornsnake (Pantherophis guttatus) had her first ocassion today to check how fast she will figure out hidden defrost pinky mice on a puzzle board designed for cats.
At first she seemed to be a bit overwhelmed and interested in escaping away from the new offered stimuli, but after few minutes she figured out there is no danger and smell of food is more interesting to check it closer, than looking for ways to escape.
On a first trial she found food within 10 minutes, on a second trial she found it within 3 minutes which you can see on this 4x speed video🥳 She is very curious and not affraid snake since beggining of her life with me, but anyway I'm very proud of how fast she adapted to the idea of using her brain cells a bit more than usuall🥹

Młoda samica węża zbożowego odmiany scaleless (Pantherophis guttatus) miała dziś pierwszą okazję aby sprawdzić, jak szybko znajdzie ukryte rozmrożone mysie noworodki na planszy puzzli przeznaczonych dla kotów.
Na początku wydawała się nieco przytłoczona i raczej zainteresowana ucieczką od nowo oferowanych bodźców, ale po kilku minutach zorientowała się, że nie ma tam niebezpieczeństwa, a zapach jedzenia jest bardziej interesujący od szukania sposobów do ucieczki.
Przy pierwszej próbie znalazła pożywienie w ok. 10 minut, przy drugiej zdecydowanie wiedziała już o co chodzi i osesek znalazł się w 3 minuty, co widać na 4x przyspieszonym filmie :)
Ta samica od początku pobytu u nas jest bardzo ciekawska i zdecydowanie mało bojaźliwa, ale i tak jestem bardzo dumna z tego, jak szybko przystosowała się do idei wykorzystywania swoich komórek mózgowych do zdobycia pokarmu w nieco inny sposób niż zwykle 🥹

Not at all in an aggresive way, but very smart, curious, focused on what is disturbing her. Also clearly showing when it's enough of messing with her and her little treasures. She is checking on both right now - baby and 2 remaining eggs.
I cannot describe how happy I am to whitness such behaviors, some pitvipers can be a great parents when you allow them for showing their natural maternal behaviors😊
