I haven’t groomed a puppy for a long time. And this particular one is my own “Duset Daram Eye of Eos” aka Kimi, out of my Zaya and Bowmore from , now 9 months old.
Very beautiful female. She was overdue on the lines and coat growth, so it was a bit hard to set the lines back. I’m not practicing grooming enough lately as much as I would, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Washed with Oats line shampoo & conditioner. Coat is nice quality but also had great texture and lift, easy to scissor.

10 MORE Coat Care REALITY CHECKS
(the “2.0” you didn’t know you needed)

Because your routine should fit your dog—and your life—not the algorithm.

1️⃣ Immaculate beats incessant
Fewer sessions done flawlessly > daily rushing. Precision saves hair. Sloppiness costs length.

2️⃣ Your hands are the real product
Calm, steady, consistent pressure detangles better than any bottle. Technique > hype.

3️⃣ Mats are messages, not enemies
They’re feedback: friction, residue, dry ends, poor sectioning—or a style your dog can’t tolerate. Fix the cause, not just the knot.

4️⃣ Water quality changes everything
Hard water, high iron, chlorine = dull, grippy hair. Use filters, adjust formulas, and rinse longer.

5️⃣ Dilution is a tool, not a rule
Right dilution depends on coat density, porosity, and water quality. Start lighter; add more only if needed.

6️⃣ Temperature control = curl control
Lukewarm wash, cooler final rinse, low/medium heat to dry. Heat can “plasticize” tangles and flatten lift.

7️⃣ Airflow > heat
Clean, residue-free hair + proper nozzle distance + steady brushing lines = faster, safer drying.

8️⃣ Train the table, not just the coat
A relaxed, conditioned dog lets you reach the roots, part cleanly, and work to the skin—less breakage, better finish.

9️⃣ Friction is the silent saboteur
Collars, crates, car rides, rough towels, sloppy bands—these do more damage than missed brush days. Manage touchpoints.

🔟 Your routine is a living system
Hormones, seasons, stress, age, diet, meds—all shift the coat. Audit and adjust monthly; don’t cling to last year’s settings.

Bonus truths:
- Speak while you groom. Maybe the coat can’t hear—but your hands do. Gentle words = gentler touch.
- “Natural” doesn’t mean safe; “salon” doesn’t mean strong. Patch test, read INCI, track results.
- Document what works. Wins repeat; guesses don’t.

The takeaway
Build a routine that’s balanced, precise, and personal. Less often—done impeccably—can grow stronger, calmer, more resilient coats over time. Knowledge + consistency + kind hands = magic. 🐩✨

We trust dog shampoos way too easily.
If it’s sold for pets, it must be safe… right?
Wrong. That’s where the problems begin.

Most people never question what’s inside the bottle.
They look at the bubbles, the smell, the “clean coat,”
and assume everything is fine.
But dogs don’t react the moment something goes wrong.
Skin damage is slow, silent, and easily missed —
until it becomes a problem you can’t ignore.

I learned this the hard way.
I watched my own dog bleed from a “normal” shampoo.
And the worst part?
It was avoidable.

We’re told myths that sound comforting:
“All shampoos are created equal.”
“Natural means safe.”
“Clean coat = healthy dog.”
“Popular brands know what they’re doing.”
They don’t. And most don’t want you looking too closely.

Here’s the truth:
Healthy skin is EVERYTHING.
And the only way to protect it is to know what’s in your products.
Not the marketing story.
Not the buzzwords.
Not the front label.
The actual ingredients.

Dogs need products that support their skin barrier, protect their natural oils, respect their microbiome, and don’t overload them with harsh chemicals or fillers.

If you love your dog — or if you groom for a living —
it’s time to start questioning what you’re putting on their skin.

Unlearn what the industry taught you.
And give dogs the care they actually deserve.

This is Hugo when he was 3 and now, at age of 12.
He scratched himself raw—bleeding in places. Sulphates did that. We shouldn’t strip our dogs’ skin; we should use products that support the skin barrier and microbiome, not break them down. When I stopped using products with sulphates, all our skin problems disappeared.
Skin is their shield. So are the natural oils on it. This matters even more for dogs that get washed often—you shouldn’t strip them faster than they can repair. And when there’s chemical build-up in a product, you’re setting up a problem—maybe not today, but soon. A coat can’t thrive on skin that’s out of balance.
My 5 cents.

To add: At that time I was also ashamed to share this picture with the world or ask for help, so that “dog show” people wouldn’t judge me (and him).
